IDF 2007: New codename scheme, again
We wrote about D8M in June and you can read about it here. It is a mainstream card that Nvidia plans to reveal in November. The high end part won't be codenamed G92 and it will be known as D8E where D stands for Desktop, 8 for the eight generation and finally E as an Enthusiast.
D8M and D8V where V stands for Value comes in November while the high end D8E part will be pushed in early 2008.
The cards support Display Port, PCIe 2.0 and DirectX 10.1 and it is the 65 nanometre part

I'm sure it will work with current PCIe boards as well.

Why? Because of PCIe 2 ? It really doesnt matter because current cards cant fill bandwith of agp 8 let alone PCIe 1. All cards will work on PCIe 1 and 2 so it doesnt matter really.

Yes, it's supposed to be a superset of the 8500/8600 cards (and be real midrange cards, not shit ones like the 8500/8600 lmao).

So at least for all the 2008 my 8800GTX should be fine.

yeah. I'm most likely gonna get one of those 8800 GT when they come out, or a new enhanced 8800 gts, depending on how much they cost. I'm still on a 7900Gtx. It's a good card and it plays new stuff well but I want to play crysis on DX10 when it's out :-)
the new 8800 GTS has 128 stream processors instead of only 96 that the current one has, putting it on par with the GTX, but it's memory and core clock are obviously lower and it has less memory so the 8800 GTX will still be faster, although probably not by enough to warrant a 150-200$ higher price tag.
Now the big question is how the new AMD/ATI cards perform.

gotta love their step up program, dont you... its great seeing a company actually create something designed to be FOR consumers, rather than to screw them over. definately will buy from evga in the future (when i built my current pc, it was my first time buying from them)

I believe it's rumored to be about 250$ for the 512mb, and 200$ for the 256mb variant.
very good bang for the buck.

Damn, more and more websites are stating that the 8800 GT and the new GTS will not support Pixel Shader 4.1/DX10.1
I'm not quite sure how much that's worth, but I like to be on the future-proof safe side.
Looks like ATI is ahead of Nvidia there for once. unfortunately I doubt that the new ATI cards will actually perform as good or better than the new nvidia ones so going with ati is most likely not going to be an option :/

since when are graphics cards future-proof?
the 8800 was supposed to be futureproof for this upcoming generation of games, and now apparently it isnt with this 10.1 crap... what makes you think cards that support 10.1 will last this generation either? 10.2 is probably around the corner.
my advice, fuck 10.1, get an 8800gtx when it comes down in price. you wont see games using 10.1 for a long time, and even then the differences will be small compared to 10.

A card with DX10.1 is obviously more future proof than a card with DX10.
Sure, they'll both be outdated soon enough, but the DX10.1 one will last longer, feature support wise (performance wise they'll probably be outdated at the same time)

point is, not that many games will make use of 10.1 for a long time yet.. i mean its only NOW that we are beginning to see some real differences between dx10 and 9. no doubt youll see games boasting 10.1 late next year, but there will probably be little if any difference between 10 and 10.1
you could pay X number of dollars for a 10.1 card, or get a card that can perform equally as good (or better) for dx10 and 9, for a much lower price. 10.1 just isnt worth it at the moment unless youve got money to burn.
