I love this kind of game.
Disciples, Age of Wonders, HoMM,...
The graphics look really good for a turn based strategy game and I like the style of the characters.
Looking forward to this!

I only played Disciples 2 and it was pretty good, although I think I like Age of Wonders a bit better.
So if you like turn based rts with some roleplaying elements be sure to keep an eye on this.

I think i played nearly all strategy games with rpg elements on the planet, personally i prefer the homm serie to the disciple one, mainly because of the combats and the party composition in disciples, i don't like too much those elements.
Age of wonders 1/2/shadow magic were all exceptional titles in my opinion, only a bit too slow if played say for 4-6 hours The tactical combats makes the gameplay a bit too slow on the long run.
Let's hope Disciples 3 will be a nice title, i miss the nights spent on a good tbs game !
There are only 10 kinds of people : those that understand binaries and those that don't.

Yeah I really wish Age of Wonders 3 was being made. Shadow magic was a great game. I never really played this, but I think I looked at D2, and your parties could only have like 4 units in them or something.. seemed a bit lite to me.

6 if I remember right, tho some of the bigger monsters could take 2 slots. It really was a nice game, definitely worth a try if you're into HOMM etc.

Have to admit I really like the visuals, they've managed to update them and yet stay faithful to the original style (which was orgasmic back in the day - still is).
Not so sure I like that open battlefield - I mean first I hated the way the original games did it, where the units didn't move at all, but I grew fond of it later on.

That thing looks superb, and though i don't care about the graphics all that much cause my old coffee grinder can't handle the today's games too well, i must say the looks on D3 is a nice touch to an already great gameplay. From the trailers that i've seen, the gameplay of D1 and D2 is still there, turn based and beautiful, which is a big plus nowadays(unlike Crapout 3 of Bethesda's works).
I still have Rise of Elves installed on my comp, so i can barely wait this one to come out!

What a mind blowing game d2 was.
The battle scenes were not so hot gfx-wise, but the art style, map, music. It was like the homm-series evil sibling.
Must install this. Never played it as much as I should have.

Just have read russian preview from KRI CONFERENCE 2009. The game got castrated...
Some of the things that got cut, won't be available or got changed in comparison to Disciples 2
- No Dungeons
- No Wood and Iron as resources, now there is only Gold, Mana and Stone(used to build castles)
- No Hero class - beastmaster
- No "combo" attacks (?!)
- Rivers are eye candy only now, no sailing by ships
- No multiplayer, single only - three chapters with six mission in each one + tutorial
- Territory clamming rods, can be placed at fixed places only ( ) by any units. Also they are treated as units now and gain experience.
- Main heroes: Warrior, Wizard, Rulers(replaced Guild masters from Disciples 2)
- Cities grow by them self, adding new slots for garrison units in the process.
- After being captured, city drops in a level losing buildings, garrison slots, etc. So, cities that change sides quite often remain razed till the end of of mission
- Enemy main stronghold can't be captured, after the battle with the guardian stronghold is destroyed.
- Combat is hex based and heavily inspired by Heroes of Might and Magic + Age of Wonders.
- Every creatures are one hex in size
- Heroes are stat based now, perks got replaced by unique abilities
- Combat gear(helmets, armors, shields, weapons, etc...) is still in
Also developers are planing to extend the game via add-ons, map editor will be released later as it is not ready to for casual mappers.

That's a nice way to butcher and ruin this game.

Why do I have a feeling this is intentional?

I played all the Disciples games and loved them. And if that review of D3 is valid it won't be better than D2 was. I watched that video/trailer and looks good. But its the content that counts. I hope they change their minds and put everything into the game so people will buy an expansion pack when it comes out not the other way around you buy the exp pack to play the game it was supposed to be in the beginning

Disciples III: Renaissance Impressions - Graphics, Campaign, and Expansion Details at Gamespot.
| Quote: | Disciples III will apparently be a very story-driven game, and each hero character will have his or her own motivations. The game's opening cinematic sequence (which resembles the cinematic cutscenes of the previous games, featuring camera zooms and pans past detailed 2D portrait art, similar to the work of filmmaker Ken Burns) sets the stage for the game's story. The troubled fantasy world of Nevendar has witnessed a miracle in the form of a shooting star that has brought with it a mysterious angel. No one knows who the angel is or what her motivations are, but each of the game's three races must escort this character throughout each of the game's three campaigns; first through the campaign of the empire faction (humans), then through the legions of the damned (demons), and finally, through the elven alliance (elves and humans). Disciples fans may be wondering about the series' other evil faction, the undead. As it turns out, it'll rejoin the world of Nevendar as a playable race in the first Disciples III add-on, which is already in production and which Akella suggests will be released shortly after Disciples III.
Disciples III has been a long time coming, but the game looks better and more complete than ever before. Akella suggests that the Russian version of the game could be ready to ship as soon as this August, but the studio is hoping to finalize its localization plans in time for a worldwide release, which could mean a later worldwide date of this winter. |

Itīs fine with me as long as the game is good. You have to consider that tbs are not very popular.
