OCZ has announced two new high speed, high capacity memory kits in its new ReaperX HPC series. The first one is a DDR2 memory kit working at 1000MHz and second one is a DDR3 kit working at 1333MHz.

Not bad at all

Does memory speed matter that much? Never felt any difference when putting faster memory.

there's usually a sweet spot depending on the CPU-architecture where further mem-speed / fsb doesnt really result in better performance. And are there already boards / cpus that use DDR3?

yeah, there are some P35 DDR3 boards I believe.

DDR3 ram is insanely expensive though because it's so new. I think you gotta pay like 150€ für one gig.

you can get over 4 gigs of great DDR2 ram for that price!

Believe the most you'll see a difference is just the loading of new level's in games etc which also prob depend on the bandwidth the HD can dish out etc. Theres quite a bit of memory that's made faster so it's easier to overclock.

Those would get in the way of a lot of the tower type aftermarket heatsinks. I don't think my Ninja would clear even with the modules on the farthest 2 alternating slots.

the question is, if it s any good anyways. The heatsinks on the corsair extreme memory which started the heatsinked ram-frenzy were for show only imho and i even read a review back than that had the heatsinks off and showed no real heat-penalty because of it.
Sure, in a case with decent airflow and with overclocked ram the above heatspreaders can help to get the heat out of the case faster, but i m still not sure, if it s really necessary or just to grab more money from enthusiasts. Like the LED-version of the corsair pro modules.

I think you are putting too much thought into it. Heat dissipating ability? Probably not, if that was it's intention they would use function over form - not that shit.

These are exactly as you said, enthusiast class memory for those who prioritize PC vanity over everything.
