Ok so I use a boss metal zone mt-2 and I got it sounding excellent through my new amp n such but it's still a lil too powerful? I'm looking for something to warm up the sound a lil bit. would the boss 6 band or KFK 10 band equilizer do the job?

When I bought my guitar(I'm not in a band or anything, just for fun...), I wanted to buy amp and pedals, but it was too expensive for recreative playing, so I pluged in guitar in my PC, and downloaded Guitar Rig 2, see http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32867&highlight= and downloaded ASIO driver. Everything works just fine, you can even plug amp in and the software will act as a preset changer, and trust me there are tons of presets. I think, if you have new sound card, it will work even better... I hope this will help, but if you are playing in a band, then...

I'm not entirely sure how you would plug your amp into your computer unless using the line out used for a cabinet extension but I guess I'll give this a shot to see what it offers. But the question still stands for a pedal though.

ibanez tube screamer might help...its a overdrive pedal but it has a warmer tone which might work for you...alot of players used this pedal when soloing...ontop of there existing sound...
back in my playing days i rarely used pedals though..i was into the rack thing...the best amps i played thru direct were mesa boogies..they had that warmth but yet you can feel/hear the tubes breathe,etc...
good shit..
but if you get your guitar running into your pc theres tons of effect mods out there these days to mess with...

SpkyeZ: Are you only using single effects in a rack?

In any case, John Frusciante of the Chili Peppers uses this: http://www.ehx.com/ehx2/Default.asp?q=f&f=%2FCatalog%2F04_Distortion%2F04_Big_Muff_Pi

And let me tell you it doesn't get any better.
Post your rig by the way Laughing

Edit: Do NOT use EQ's, no need for em.
If you got a shitty amp it'll only sound worse, and it doesnt offer much of a change for good sounding amps. I don't know what amp you're using, but I hope you didn't skimp on it.

yep... use a big muff for soloing you'll get the warmest sound, you should put it through the clean channel since that box already completely destroys the signal. It gives this typical warm and howling sound...

I might add frusciante uses more than just his big muff. If you want to get nearer to that tone you'd have to add in a holy grail and most important a wah... Anyway, not really a chance to copy his sound that guys style is so remarkably unique. imho the best guitar player of todays rock scene, i dont no no other who can even get close to him in terms of songwriting improvisation and soulful soloing Very Happy

In the case of Frusciante the rig is just gravy.
