Looks like it is about time to build a new rig.
I have a question about SLI though. I am a little dumb when it comes to SLI because... well, I have never used it before and havent studied up much on it.
In my current system, I have a BFG Gfroce 7900 GT gpraphics card.
Is it ok to run a BFG Gforce 7950 GT in SLI with my current 7900?
I didn't want to spring for 2 new video cards at the present, but I really want to go ahead with an SLI set up. I didn't know how SLI works so if someone could enlighten me a little, I would appreciate it.

No, it's not OK to run 7950 and a 7900... And buying a 7950 (one or two) is just dumb, if I may say, sorry. Instead of SLI get 8800 or a x2800.

I agree. After looking at the numbers it would be dumb.
I am going for the BFG 880GTX.

need 2 cards with the same chip/specs to run sli... can be from 2 different makers as long as its basically the same card.
and where the hell are the new ati reviews... hasnt ati started handing em out to reviewers yet?!

I agree. After looking at the numbers it would be dumb.
I am going for the BFG 880GTX. |
Dunno if you know this or not but if you get the eVga 8800 they have a step up program that a few months after you get the card, and a better one comes out, you can send your card back and pay only the difference of the better one. Don't get me wrong, BFG is one of the best from what I understand but I dunno if they offer something like this. |

When the 7900 GT first came out, I ordered an EVGA card. The card would not work in my system and they kept insisting it was a problem with my system. I got neweeg to take the card back and exchange it for another EVGA... same thing. Wouldnt work. EVGA still insisted it was my system. I got newegg to take that card back again and this time exchange it for the BFG. The BFG ran as soon as I popped it in. Later, EVGA admitted they had sent out faulty cards. The whole thing was enough to tick me off nearly permanently at EVGA. BUT... I mya buy their version with them having this program.

ah I remember when that happened, I think that was the only series that happened to though, the 8800's I haven't heard too much being wrong with other than driver support which has pretty much been fixed, the card was horrible on UBI games, like double agent. |

Yeah, that's what eVGA does. They give you 30 days to send the faulty one back and overnight the new one to your door. So I had both cards in my possession for about 15 days before I mailed it out the bad one.
It's a good way to test SLi LoL. They use that method for just about all their RMA's but they prioritized the 7900's back then really high since they were getting tons of RMA requests and Nvidia was pointing the finger at the board partners for their OC'ing. (I actually bought a stock speed one) so they revamped their entire RMA process to make it much faster and user friendly.
