Following dark_matters useful and informative thread reminding me why I used to run Windows Server 2003 as a workstation OS, I've decided to replace my XP partition and give it another shot,
One problem that I've always had with Windows installers is that they, by default, overwrite the MBR and install their own primitive and somewhat unflexible boot manager.
So, at the moment my MBR looks like this: (I already have Server 2003 installed as an emegency partition on my old, 17.4GB hard disk)
Vista Boot Manager, two options:
- Windows Vista
- Old Version of Windows --> NT boot manager
->Server 2003
->XP SP3 UWin Edition
The problem is that when I install Sever 2003 onto my current XP partition it will inevitably replace the Vista boot manager with the old NT one.
I will not therefore be able to boot Vista.
How can I utilise the Vista install DVD to recover the Vista boot manager and leave the NT one intact?
This Would be the ideal outcome:
Following BIOS, Vista Boot Manager:
- Windows Vista
- Old Version of Windows --> NT boot manager
->Server 2003 (old HDD)
->Server 2003 (former XP partition)
