I'd agree with kenny64. Personally, I'd talk to the "best friend" and see what the score is, if he's interested in her and willing to put your friendship in the way then just ditch him, and give some of that "I'm really disappointed in you, I thought you were my best friend" talk. Depending on whether the girlfriend actually responded to the best friend, ie. accepted the flirting and kinda flirted with him too, I'd just plain and simple let her know it was pretty much over (even if you wanted to give her another chance).
See who comes back to you, if both participated in the "chatting up" (ie. wasn't just the best friend chatting up the girlfriend) then they'll know for sure what they did is wrong, and will one way or another try to make it up to you. If they do, you can take it from there, if they don't... well, there's better people out there that are more deserved of your attention.

I dislike violence. I think it creates more problems then it solves. If someone initiates a fight it just shows how weak willed they are in my opinion. Thats not to say I won't use violence to defend myself or my friends and family. If I know someone has my back, i'll have theirs no matter the situation, if it means I get battered then i'll do that backing up my friends. But I won't start a fight over something petty, if someone spills a drink over me as long as they apologise I won't make a big deal out of it, accidents happen.

For me it all depends on the situation. If the girl allowed that guy to be hitting on her, I would dump the slut, and my "friend" would be safe from harm since he helped me to find out how my girl really is. On the other hand, if the girl got really pissed at the fact that the guy try to pass one by me, I would definitely straighten my "friend" out, possibly in the way that gingie51 suggested.

Most situations don't require for you to get physical, but sometimes you got to act like you do have some balls, and take matters into your own hands (somebody fucking your girlfriend is not the same as spilling a drink on some).
