Official Site: http://www.redfaction.com/
Release Date: May 31th 2011
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Developer: Volition, Inc.
Publisher: THQ
Genre Third-person shooter, Single-player and Multi-player

Official Trailer

Quote:

The game will retain several elements from its predecessor, Red Faction: Guerrilla, such as fully destructible environments. Also similarly to its predecessor which had the player liberating settlements from the Earth Defense Force, the player must now reclaim cultist fortifications on the disaster-ravaged surface of the planet and free colonists from alien cocoons. Players can also hunt for artifacts to create new alien weapons such as the new Nano Forge, Tremblers and Rhino Charges. Although the planet's surface is no longer habitable, gameplay will not be restricted to only the underground caverns of Mars and can still explore and fight on the surface of Mars against the aliens. The game also features a new extermination mode which has four players teaming up to fight against infinite waves of attackers.

Like the first and third games of the series, the game takes place on the planet of Mars. The game takes place in the year 2170, half a century after the events of Red Faction: Guerrilla, since the end of the third game the surface of the planet has become uninhabitable. This occurred when the massive Terraformer on Mars which supplied it with its Earth-like air and weather had been destroyed, causing the atmosphere to turn to chaos with super-tornados and lightning storms engulfing the planet. In order to survive, the Colonists were forced to flee to the underground mines of Mars, building a network of habitable caves under the surface of the planet.
The game begins five years after the relocation underground and follows the story of Darius Mason, grandson of Martian Revolution heroes Alec Mason and Samanya who were the main characters of Red Faction: Guerrilla, who runs a lucrative series of businesses based in Bastion, the underground hub of Colonist activity, including mining, scavenging and mercenary-work. Only a few sane people venture to the now-ravaged surface of Mars, apart from contractors like Darius and smugglers who smuggle goods between settlements. Darius is tricked into reopening a mysterious shaft in an old Marauder temple which releases a long-dormant evil race of aliens causing an Armageddon on Mars. Colonist and Marauder settlements alike are torn apart by the new enemies with Darius and the Red Faction having to save the Martian population once again.

The first game needed a little more depth and less generic shooting + spawning.

Awesome destruction technology, it blew me away, it needs to take gravity forces into account (more)

Looks alright, perhaps a bit more linear than the predecessor but the destructible environments (obiouvsly) will still be there.

Sad for me RF games were about fighting human opponents, it had that semi-realistic feeling, civil war and shit. now it has ugly aliens and it's trying to be GoW + Lost Planet at the same time... *sigh* instant fail for me.

I loved the first Red Faction. It had true destructability. You could blow your way through solid rock etc.

Red Faction 2 sucked. Red Faction Guerilla felt very lacking, like Far Cry 2 on Mars.

Yes the first Red Faction is absolutely my favourite, and aside from the glitches I enjoyed Guerrilla as well. Looking foorward to this one, although it doesn't seem the most inspired game ever (narrative/setting-wise); the gameplay looks rather solid though and the free-roam from Guerrilla has been slightly abandoned in favour of a more "linear" experience, which is not a problem. Guerrila wasn't bad, just lacked depth. I for one really enjoyed the destruction though, especially in the later part of the game where you can have a building being supported by just a few pillars or something, take out one and watch it crumble Very Happy

The blame gets Sci-fi channel for the delay this time not THQ
http://news.bigdownload.com/2011/01/19/red-faction-origins-tv-movie-to-include-veteran-sci-fi-actors/

first the movie then the game , if they would filmed it in 2010 then they would release this game in March but now we are forced to wait for May

Various screens, probably from scenes featured in the video I'd guess.

EDIT: Heh, it kinda looks like a mix between Bioshock and Dead Space somewhat, also from the screens the sledgehammer returns.
