|
 |
D/lded the rars and unpacked the iso, burned at 4X with Alcohol 120% on Fujifilm DVD-R (media scanned as PRODISC1). PS2 is the old fatty V5 with solderless mod and swap magic 2.0. Using this same method and DVD-R media all from the same spindle, I've sucessefully burned and played soul calibur 3, DMC3, Tekken 5, and R-Type final without any problems whatsover. With God Hand, the game will still run, but the loading times are horrible and random pauses occur during gameplay. The sound skips, stutters, de-syncs during both gameplay and FMV sequences, and the game freezes at the same point at every playthrough (1st stage, after getting on the elevator). I've burned another copy using dvd decryptor and the exact same problems occur, right down to the freeze at the same point in the 1st stage. Does this game have some sort of protection that wasn't detected? Or is it a compressed iso image file (I've heard that compressed imaged with all the filler data taken out do have stuttering problems) since it's only 1.5GB unpacked? Anyone have similar problems and/or solutions?

I cant speak for this particular release. cos i didnt bother with it cos it looks complete crap.
However i have grabbed and burnt most of the recent Eminent releases with no problems at all.
I use cheapo printable Ritek media (5 for £1) burnt at 8x and have no problems.
Perhaps your lazer lens is dirty?
Buy some other media and burn onto them, theres no need to use 'big' name media imo.
Sorry i could not be more help

I cleaned out the lense with some alcohol and a qtip, and it did seem to stop the sound skipping and allow me to progress further. However, load times are still crappily long and it still freezes at random parts of the game. Keep in mind that the rest of my burned games work flawlessly before and after the lense cleaning. I'm gonna try some different dvd-r's for comparison, but I suspect that the image itself is bad. May end up renting and ripping it myself...

Not all PS2 games run correctly with swap magic and sometimes even need a patch or a loader disc fix, try asking at http://www.ps2nfo.com
Whats the size of the ISO ? some games which are bigger than 4.35GB need a TOC refresh to run properly, again check http://www.ps2nfo.com
edit... just tried, works fine for me with Swap Magic DVD 2.0 (old) burnt on a DVD+R with ImgBurn.
it's looks quite a good game
I looked up "gormless" in the dictionary, it said "without gorm" .... so i looked up "gorm" but it wasn't there ????

I had the same problems with Okami. It's probably just a dirty/bad laser. Try using some rubbing alcohol on the end of a Q-tip to clean it, then use a dust-free towel to wipe it off, very thoroughly of course. If that doesn't work, try it on a different PS2.
[21:38] <chiz***> how do you "had" aids

dang it, I must have cleaned the laser like 5 times over the course of 2 days... I tried burining it on some recently purchased RITEK1 media and those wouldn't even read... Immediately after a cleaning, the game will read just with long load times and then progressively start skipping and stuttering ending with a random freeze after 2-3hrs. Still managed to play through and beat it though... fun game overall. Woulda been better if I didn't have to reset and clean the ps2 after every 2 hrs... I tried all my other burned games just to see if in fact my ps2 laser was crapping out and they all work flawless with immediately bootup after swap.
I would like to know if someone out there with an original copy tell me what the original iso size is. 1.5gb seems like it was compressed/cropped of the dummy files, which might explain the stuttering. Ps2nfo.com doesn't seem to have any info on the game as of yet, let alone people with similar problems as mine... will keep looking tho...

Did you try cleaning the lens on you're burner ? I would give that a shot if any future games give you trouble.
I always use a dvd cleaner disc every couple of months or so on all my optical drives in pc or consoles, dvd players ect.

I don't think that's necessary since I was able to burn a readily readable copy of ps2loader afterwards... However, I found a way to get it to at least always boot up.
I noticed on ps2nfo.com that people were having similar problems with Okami, another game made by Clover studios. The random freezing and stuttering is exactely what I've been experiencing. They suggested using cogswap or ps2loader to get it running but people still had problems... With me, I can get the game to boot up every time using ps2loader, but it still skips and stutters pretty bad during gameplay. I'll probably have to wait for a patch-fix to become available
Will update with more info and possible fixes when I find them.

Well, I solved the problem. Seems that games by clover studios can only run when burned at 2X max when playing on the old bulky ps2 with swap magic. I rented and made an iso image of Okami burned using different media and burn speeds to confirm this. Thanks everyone for all the advice.
