Can you run 1080p threw a component interface..? I thought to get the true vision you
were required to run it threw a HDMI cable. We know that the PS3 supports this. It may be possible to run the signal threw but a HDMI interface would be ideal.
Hmm.. A dashboard update. Since it will render the firmware hack completely useless. I wonder what other things they will fix.
I don't have any hype to run stuff in 1080p. 1080i suits me and my television doesn't have a HDMI interface jack. If I really want to run it, I will have to put money down on a new set. I would like to get the best possible picture. I'm not really all the excited for HD-DVD or BlueRay. I'm still amazed by DVD picture quality and how far the technology has taken us into the digital world.
Is there any websites out there that explain how they transfer stuff to DVD? CLean up the film for dirt specs, hair & other artifacts. I tried google but nothing hit the nail on the head for what I was looking for..

Component can support 1080p, but the issue vs HDMI comes in at the TV set level. Presently there are only a handful of TVs that to 1080p through component. They only support 1080p through HDMI. There any many high end projectors though that support 1080p through component. But IMHO i think 720p is pleanty; 1080p IMO is all just marketing hype on Sonys part. Becasue 720p is still considered a "True" HD format.
im not to excited about Hd-dvd and blueray either. Heck most of of movies a stream in Xvid through my network.

All major studios have said that they'll allow 1080p through analog output untill 2010. Beyond that point it is only possible through encyrpted digital output, meaning HDMI or DVI with HDCP.
This means the HD DVD drive for the Xbox360 can only show movies in HD untill 2010, after that the drive is useless (at least for new movies), but maybe it will work in PC's, one reason why it only costs €130 in Japan.

is there a list that matches the different modes to resolutions. My CRT, IBM P260 has a max resolution of 1920 x 1440. I am running my PC desktop at 1600 x 1200 and my 360 at 1280 x 1024 normal. Any idea how to figure native resolutions for CRT monitor? The recommended resolution BTW is 1600 x 1200 for my monitor

Most games will still be 720p native so 1080i or p will be bilinear upscaled = makes no sense. The REAL use for 1080p will be when you insert a HD-DVD movie and it switches to 1080p automatically.
Unfortunately we're still in the blind as to how they plan to output 1080p. I see VGA as the only option without HDMI and thus far the VGA output is lacking in color fidelity compared to component.
It will be the same for many PS3 games where only Sony's own studios will murder themselves trying to support 1920x1080 and the rest will settle for graphcis quality+framerate = 720p over uber-resolution.

VGA for x360 is sweet after the last update that fixed the problem with washed out colors and shit. I'm using VGA on it and I'll take it over that damn component any day to be honest.

The German article i linked to says that they will output 1080p through VGA and component YUV.
