					| I have a freaky electrical problem.

I figure there must be some electrical minded science guys here. I need help.

I have a salt water fish tank. I go to clean it the other day and I stick my hand into the water and get a huge shock. I look at all the wires, everything looks good. I have quite a bit of power going to it. I have special lights for coral, protein skimmer, heater, filter. I am freaking out over my poor fish and my lobster shrimp.

Later on 6 friends drop by. They are checking the wires, they can’t see anything outta the ordinary. One of them sticks their hand into the tank and said “It not happening anymore, it’s fine” I stick my hand in -BOOM shock. Now they are all trying it and nothing is happening to them.

This is the freaky part. I grabbed the opposite wrist of on the guys with his hand in the water and BOOM - we are both shocked. Basically we figured it out it was me. Everybody took turns sticking their hands into the tank and I would grab their opposite hand and - BOOM- shock. 6 people all agreed it was me I am standing on a concrete floor, totally grounded, not touching anything, wearing plastic shoes. In the last 2 days I have been shocked over 25 times.

Any ideas what would cause this. I thought maybe I have super duper electrolytes in my blood or something. I also build up a lot of static in stores, every time I go to touch something I am shocking myself and the cashier when I hand my money over.

					| It's probably because of your shirt or pants.
If it's some special type, then it might build up some electricity in you.
Try to change clothes, or go naked for 1 day, and it wont happen.

 I hate you.

 Nah, but really..Freaky!

Ya but even in xfiles there was always an explanation. Something scientific. Even if it the electrolytes in my blood it is within the skin not on the outside to conduct.

haha no nakid is not an option. Bad area.
I thought of clothes too, nylon I think will do it but I don't wear that. Mostly cotton, jeans, flip flops.

I have weird reactions to metal too, I can smell pennies if I open my wallet, screws, nuts, untreated metal things. Ohh - fucking spoons, forks. I pick them up sometimes and I can taste the metal all the way in my mouth. I like plastic cutlery. I have a few fillings, maybe that is it.
Other people must have these problems.

					| That is pretty weird.
Hmmm...do you high have iron or something? maybe that has something to do it? Or maybe you carry alot of...you know, when you rub your feet on the groud and touch something...electromagnetic charge, i think thats it?

Atleast you can honestly say your electrifying

					| Yup your are not alone my mother has this talent and me too ,
my wife is the only one that freaks out when schock her
well its like my organism has the power to gather static energy then when touch some one
 i can shock him

					| I know a few folks who are hyper sensitive to magnetism & metals .. its just a quirk ..like being double jointed or being able to turn your eyelids inside out .. no biggy .. what I suggest you do is double up on the grounds for the wiring .. rubber seal the tank housings .. & basically take extra steps to ground static & charge from he tank .. salt water conducts better than fresh .. if the problem is unacceptable .. perhaps you need to switch to a freshwater tank .. ?
You must be ace @ kiddies parties .. you can just pick up a balloon I bet & it will stick to anything .. lol

					| I would say that you definitly have a short in one of your heaters, pumps etc. I would doubt that it has anything to do with iron concentration in your blood etc.
Every one has a electrical potential, some of us greater than others. Everyone also has a different resistivity in there body. These 2 factors alone could attribute to why you are suseptable to the shock and others are not.

How extreme is the shock? Is it like static shock where you get a sudden snap then nothing, or is it like a prolonged zap. If you have ever shocked yourself with 120V you will know the difference.

I would say increasing grounds would be of no help becasue if you are using 3 prong plugs for your equipment then you are grounded enough. If it is a ground problem it would be a bad or noisey ground in your house wireing.

Also switching between salt and fresh water will make no difference becasue the shock is being caused by an external source, so you would not be fixing the problem; just making the effects slightly less.

And remeber that every single moving part in your setup will casue static, and if you are not grounded you eventually will get a shock once the potential is greater than your bodys natural potential.

Oh a btw, you are never supposed to put your hand in your tank when your system is electrified, well at least thats what the manuals say.
I take it that you probably have a sump tank right? just plug your inflow to the tank(via a check valve etc), switch off the power, then clean your tank.
 Kinda off topic
 I have a 165 gallon fresh water with a 33 gallon sump.
3 silver arowanas, 4 clown loaches, and a huge common pleco. Post picks of your tank, and ill put up some of mine.

 Cheers

edit: Just thought of this. To try and find the device thats casuing the shock; just plug in one device at a time then take the plunge. No zap, move to the next device. I have bought new pumps that have been faulty/leaky out of the box.

Oh and Syco. Your a cheese ball.
