I am planning on dismantling my gaming rig because I no longer game. All I use the PC is for browsing, movies, music, programming, Word, excel, Powerpoint and lots of downloading. Heres what I have. What all can I remove and what would be good cheap replacements?
AMD 64 3000+
MSI Neo4f
500 GB SATA HD
7800 GT OC
Sound Blaster Audigy
Saitek Gamer KB
Logitech MX1000 + wireless keyboard
Altec Lansing 5.1 speakers

you would probably stand a good job of selling all of it on ebay.
then just buy a crappy prebuilt cheap ass dell or a second hand machine off ebay

only things i see of real resale value are the GC and the hard disk
tho the GC has been replaced by the 7900gt now, so u'd wanna sell it quick, dx10 is around the corner so I reckon most smart ppl are holding onto their cards if they can survive without upgrading, but ppl may be in the market for a decent interim upgrade at a good price, so i'd prolly ebay that and replace it with a cheap nvidia (to save pissing around with drivers if u keep the hard-disk)
you'd prolly make about 60quid, or $100 I reckon
personally i wouldn't want to buy a second hand hard-disk, i think most peeps are the same
u could sell the keyboard and mouse, and replace with oem microsoft or logitech stuff, dunno if it's worth it tho, and you might miss these..
u may be better of selling it as a whole rig and building a cheap replacement or getting a dell as suggested, looking at ebay would give u an idea of how much to expect

Well I think you should keep everything and maybe downgrade the G card. I don't think you'll get much money for it and what you've got is obviously pretty good for what you need it for anyway. I wouldn't necessarily call that a gaming rig either anymore.
but yea i'm like you. I hardly ever play games but I think it'd be pretty pointless to downgrade my rig now because I won't get what I really want (money wise) plus it's handy to play games on some decent settings like hl2, and not have to worry about slow downs / not metting the requirements.
