Liquid-Chilled Xbox 360 Cooling System Pictures and Info @ http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEFypuZVEkIYSkmBya.php
Wow! Some cool case mods coming your way for all you cool 360 users to keep your 360 cool. Now is that cool or what ?
Is it just me or is this next-gen console getting the PC Mod treatment? Ver Eez Ze Colored Case Fanz And Ze Plasma Tubez Mein Gatez?!
Its a nice article but im not sold on water cooling for consoles and even though the guys point out that its a prototype that thing to me looked damn ugly - it just took something away from the nice streamlined look of the console itself, a look which MS clearly worked hard on especially when you see it against the mock ups of that grotty looking PS3.
I find myself thinking that far beyond the practical implications of watercooling noteably the reduction in sound and temperatures part of buying that sort of setup was to show it off in the form of cases like the Thermaltake Armour or Kandalf. Having the tubes threading in and out of the case with a clear perspex window on one side so you can see it in all its beauty not hiding it all inside. Know what I mean?
I also wouldn't feel comfortable lugging a console around in one of those console carry bags if it was caked with third party attachments and modifications especially when there related to cooling.
Never had any problems with heat with my xbox360. even after hours of playing it doesnt feel very hot (the air coming out of the venting holes, and the powerbox isnt very hot either. Either all this heatprobs are bullshit or i'm just lucky to be the owner of a perfect machine

Mmmmm mods, mods, MODS !!
The guys did some testing with 360 running Q4 - "With stock Xbox 360 cooling, after an hour of Quake 4, the back of the motherboard temperature was 150.8ºF ( 66ºC ).
With the water cooled Xbox 360, after an hour of Quake 4, the back of the motherboard was a full 50ºF cooler than stock cooling at 101ºF ( 38.4ºC )."
With poor ventilation & room heating or summer heat that 66ºC temp could be a problem
You have to love HardOCP some of their articles and the projects that their members put on display are freaking sensational, the Doom 3 case mod for example that thing is insane.
All I can say about those temperatures is that as someone whos going to buy a 360 at some stage this year I wouldn't be happy if thats how hot it was running at this time of the year never mind the summer. If any of my PC's were clocked at 66 degrees C after one hour of gaming the software that came with the motherboard would be shutting them down automatically.
Nah I think its a phase-change liquid that circulates internally kind of like a Zalman heatpipe cooler. Trouble is it might not be enough to circulate heat buildup in a warm room or enclosed with inadequate ventilation. Time will tell
