Looking for a good digital camera for around 400$, preferrably one with as good image quality as possible (I'd rather subtract from optical zoom, filter effects, and shit like that for crystal clear images). (No, I don't want to buy one from you, I'm just looking for some advice).
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

The Canon S line always gets good reviews and i personally own a S40 wich i'm very pleased with. For $400 you can get the S70 by now.

Review:

Quote: | At the end of the day, however, if image quality, build and manual control are your chief priorities (and especially if you mainly shoot scenery), the PowerShot S70 must sit near the top of your shopping list - it's well priced, a pleasure to use in all but the lowest light and it delivers results most 8MP cameras would be proud of, and represents a much more significant upgrade to the hugely popular S50 than the S60. |

Grym som fan! and waterproof tooo!
Will set you back around $400. I myself have the s5i and i am thinking about upgrading to this one instead!
On the downside though is the fact that the memory card included is pathetic.
On the upside is the fact that you can use it under water for up to 30 mins at a time
Of all the things i've lost, i miss my mind the most!

The test photos of it were horrible, extremely grainy, and low quality.
I dunno, the Canon looks quite a bit better on paper too.

Hmm, I'm looking at the:
Canon Powershot A610
and the
Canon Powershot S70
Both seem pretty well rounded, it's a hard pick.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Apparently the Powershot A6X0-series got Steve's highest reward in respective category (5 & 6-7Mpx).

If you look, you'll see that it's the same photographer that have taken all the pictures on that site, and if you compare (virtually) the same images between cameras, you still get a pretty good idea on which camera is the best.
Most of the tests I read (Steve's, Dpreview, cyberphoto.se, etc.) favour the Canon Powershot A610.

The Canon Powershot A610 is also very nice, and it can be used with normal batteries i think. The S70 still has it's custom battery, the replacement for my S40 cost me around €50, quite expensive.

Yes, I hate custom batteries, that was the sole reason why I didn't want to go for the S70.
With my last digicam I was on a holiday and the damned camera had a custom battery clip that I couldn't charge for days (due to the circumstances). You can get hundreds of regular batteries for those occasions. And if I'm hiking for a couple of days in remote territory (without a power outlet), I want common regular batteries.

bahhh...
don`t buy the original and save some cash.
you can get them for ~5-10 € @ ebay and they are even better than the original ones.
I have three and I neverever ran out of power...
