Hey I was just wondering if anyone else encountered this problem ever???
A couple months ago I bought a 160 Gig Western digital HDD, for the first couple weeks everything was fine but now from time to time it emits a pitch whining sound which is really annoying. The only I get it to stop is reboot but it always comes back, sometimes in a cpl days sometimes in a matter of hours.Anybody out there have any clue what cold be causing this or how to correct it.The fucking thing wakes me up at night when this happens and its really annoying having to reboot to get rid of it temporarily.
any help or thoughts ???????
Oh and I e-mailed and called the place I bought it from but they won't help me cause i lost the reciept....arseholes

This may not be an issue with the hard drive. I have the same sound, and have had it for about 2 years, on and off. Luckily my fans drown it out, haha. Anyway, what I believe it to be, is a screw loose or it weakly mounted in my case (which it is). I definately would take it and put it in another machine and see what it does. If it sounds ok for a while, then its probably just the mounting.
