|
 |
"From the Globe and Mail, Rogers Communications Inc. and Bell Canada have said they will put aside their competitive differences to jointly build and manage a Canada-wide wireless broadband network. It is hoped they will initially reach more than two-thirds of Canadians in less than three years." From the article: "The two communications companies will pool their wireless broadband spectrum into a joint venture called Inukshuk Internet Inc. The network will cover more than 40 cities, and 50 rural and remote communities across the country. Users will be able to access the Internet and use voice, video streaming and data applications both inside their home, as well as on the go."

We'll I'll be damned. I really hope this is the beginning of VOIP mobile phones, with teleconferencing.

Probably work using WiMAX -
From 100MBps to 15MBps overall which will connect into normal WiFi devices so 54MB locally. It will be greatly dependant on number of users in a specific area.

AFAIK it's going to be gov't subsidized and thus paid for in taxes somewhere. I could be wrong, but thats what I've gathered. This is a HUGE step for Canada, and it truely shows our continuing dominance over the united states in high speed, broadband and internet world.

I didnt see a single word about this being a step from the Canadian goverment. Good step though. S.Korea, Japan, and Canada (once they get their wireless up and running) will be front runners in my book.
