Well it had to happen eventually, download over 30gig (softcap) and get a letter and if you continue to not abide then you'll get another saying

You will be downgraded to a new 512k Unlimted Service for £17.99 from the start of "X month" (normally the end of you current month that you get the letter.

Also states that there will be a new unlimited service next year

.. England has a ISP forum . called TheSceam! ..

http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/index.php? I found a better provider .. faster cheaper & no cap thanks to them .. NTL has had its day .. I switched, I suggest you do also ..

As allways a forum post, nothing on their website, no email from them concerning acceptable use, nothing with my bill warning me of this new policy.
Its all second hand information...what a way to do business NTL...

Since my mate got disconnected from ntl for being a heavy downloader Ive installed a bandwidth monitor and to be honest its a pain.
I aint a heavy downloader, not really downloaded much since friday that was SuSE10 dvd but 30 gigs is still difficult to stay under I'm upto about 16 gig ands we aint halfway through the month Sad
Reached about 36 gigs last month and thats just my windows downloads I use SuSE too

Ive been downloading for years not really taking notice of my bandwidth usage.
Maybe I'll be back to 512K....Then I'll look fro a proper ISP

Years ago NTL used to be an ISP that you would recomend to friends, those days are gone.

I have downloaded 40+ gigs this month already, And by the releases due it will be another 40 easily.

Looks like a new isp for me . Can't complain really been gettin 512 for a tenner a month for 2 years and been upgraded to a 2 meg line 5 months ago . Still £10 a month

( Asked to be disconnected due to be ntl cable being pish , they offered to do 3 months at £10 , seems to be a long 3 months though )

dunno about england or any other place.
here in israel..none of the isp's is limiting you in the bandwidth...
it means u pay XXX and u can download terrabytes without paying an extra dime.
for instance I pay 25$ per month...and i usually download approximately 10GB per day... Cool
without paying anything more.
ISP's that charge for extra .... s*cks hard!

well ... rogers cable here supposedly has a cap too ... but I don't think they really enforce it. Apparently it was to free bandwidth for their VOIP service ...

Exactly, Cogeco is the same way. The VOIP is good to go now, and the testing is done. Bandwidth hasn't been an issue for cable providers here for a while. I've downloaded over 50gb this month according to DU meter and it was more than twice that last month. It's never enforced, and they are continuously improving our speed.

I dont ever recall rogers having a cap on their service in any way...ive always gotten the speed im supposed to get and at times, have downloaded close to 200Gb's in a month, never one complaint. But then again, some months i dont even download a GB worth of shit....

Laughing

Ive heard enough horror stories about Rogers, but since they came out with cable internet, ive been a subscriber...actually, ive been a rogers customer for about 9 or 10 years now...Im a vip member to and shit, maybe that has something to do with the reason they have never bugged me...?

Since I went to Rogers Extreme (I bought the DOCSIS modem - fuck renting), i havent had one service interruption or unexpected downtime ya know? Never any slow downs or network congestion....pure smooth internet Smile Maybe its cuz not to many ppl have extreme yet...

I checked into it and rogers has a newsgroup cap if u use the rogers nntp service...if u do what i do however, use a separate news provider, they have no cap on speed or usage Smile

the official press release doesn't mention what size . They mainly mention HEAVY downloaders . as in the over 500 gig mark (Which I Think is bullshit , This would be non stop downloading for 30 days and you get the last day off )

Now they seem to be a few who have had letters for downloading 50+ . yet people being congratulated for going from 150 to 120 gig. ( some bloke named mcmanic or something like that Razz )

512k unlimited for £18 ( you could max out at about 130 gig a month ) OR
2 meg limited to 30 gig at £37 ( you could download that in 2 days.... )

Anyway check out nthellworld.co.uk or cableforum.co.uk
