I have heard that you if play Playstation 2 games burned on CD and watch divx movies, listen to mp3 on CD the laser (or better yet its optics) are bound to fail much sooner.
Have there been any reports Playstation 2 or XBOX failing much sooner because of the use of burned CDs?

With Ps2s it seems to be the case due to cheap stuff put in, your optical drive slowly dies and will stop being able to read what is on the disc.

Have not heard so much about this on the xbox side which is not so suprising as well when playing copies of the hdd is so easy Smile

But it wouldn't matter if that would be a burned CD or DVD, right? Isn't quality of CDs on average better then DVDs?

Some state that quality does matter, with CDs VS DVDs, the laser head has to move less on a dvd as each "line" contains more data,

Well put a 80gb in Wink Wink Wink

Also, Its Just RIPS on CDR's that Damage the Laser... Just check it out your self... Put a Game Rip in thats on CDR and Listen to the Lazer working its nuts off... Now put a DVDR in and listen how normal / quite it is..

Oh yea, a RIP is where a game taken from say 2GB and has all the movies and music etc ripped out to get it to fit on a CDR... And some rips are rips of DVD9 games made to fit on DVD5 disc...

So its mainly just CDR Rips that damage the laser Smile
