I'm having a bit of a problem with GTA:SA.

Everytime I get ingame, my comp reboots after let's say 5 seconds. I turned on the bluescreen-option so I could see what the problem was, but it just gave me an empty blue screen.

All my drivers are up to date normally, so I don't know how to fix it. If anyone had the same problem and knows how to fix it, plz enlighten me...

Comp:
PIV 3.0
Radeon 9800xl
512mb ram
...
for more info, just ask.

Without the bluescreen dump information it will be hard to figure out what the issue is. Do you have problems with anything else? Does your machine crash often?

If so, under what circumstances?

No, it's the only game where this happens. Other games, even recent games like Guild Wars, can be played without any problem.

Gonna play again in a few hours, hoping to get some info on the bluescreen ... it's frustrating when you don't know what to do. Wink

Mod: I have the latest dx, installed only last week. Temp en ventilation are normal. As I said, I've got the latest drivers for my gfxcard, soundcard and mobo (installed today, hoping it would fix the problem).

remember, always post as much info as possible.
With crashes in 3d games also post which directx version, driver version for card and the mobo-drivers, the ventilation of your system and temps of cpu, mobo and gfx-card (if it has a sensor), ram, peripheral cards, etc...
AND as sYn pointed out, if there is crash info, post that too. Often googling for the text in the crash window/screen will give you a good understanding what the whole mess is all about.
If all else fails, scream at the sky! Very Happy

mmmh, if you havent already done so, try to play it without any anti-aliasing and aniso-filtering. That sometimes fucks up games too. If it works fine without, slowly go up with the settings to see if some are still playable.

Yeah, I turned all options off ... doesn't make any difference.

Bluescreen just stays blue. Only thing I can show is the signature of the fault windows gives when I reboot, but I don't know if there is anything you can do with it (I don't know anything about computercode):

BCCode : 100000d1 BCP1 : 00000008 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000000
BCP4 : F7800A22 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1

any more from the bluescreen? Usually you get something like a stop code or a warning like irq_less_or_equal or similar. Or even something like error in device: blablabla
That would help alot.

My best guess is that its a driver issue. Have you tried to clean out the old gfx drivers or have you just installed over the old ones?

Please look at this article and figure out which STOP message is being given, if you dont understand the error yourself put it here and I will try to explain.

http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.php

Pay attention to this part of the article: Examine the “System” and “Application” logs in Event Viewer for other recent errors that might give further clues. To do this, launch EventVwr.msc from a Run box; or open “Administrative Tools” in the Control Panel then launch Event Viewer.

Somewhere in there you should find the system crash along with the STOP message Smile!

I just installed over them ... gonna reinstall them later on today, got some work to do now.

As I said, the bluescreen doesn't give any information ... it just show a big blue screen, with no letters on it at all.

i have a fx5900 (i know its crap) and i set up a profile using 2xAA 8xAF and vertical sync set to off.. it looked nice at ran really well at 1280x1024 resolution... but i would get the reset the computer problem after playing the game for @20 minutes... so i deleted the profile and just used the in-game AA setting and have not had a problem since.

so maybe if you turn off your aa/af and set vertical sync to default or on, and then use in-game settings you may get a better result

Do you notice any changes with vertical sync switched on ?
Personnally I've got a Radeon 9600 128mb and 1gb ram but it's most of the time pretty laggy (10-15 fps) at 800*600 32bits, details medium and draw distance really low. Yet it's fine when I'm driving fast on a freeway (20-25 fps)
Any tips ???

Only thing I found threre was a True Vector Engine-error ... after googling I found it was related to ZoneAlarm. So I uninstalled that. But it didn't help. The only other fault that appears is the one described above (BCCode : 100000d1 ...), but no STOP code. This is starting to get annoying. Smile

I also tried the verifier-thingy via the run box, but there I also got nothing more then the usual empty bluescreen en the BCCode. Guess I won't be playing gtasa after all.

Did you check the SYSTEM part of the event logs? Or only the application?

Plus, dont only look at the "ERROR" logs, look at them all for something that talks about system halts.

I would put this error down to the following based on that stop code (slightly different but no doubt the same as I belive the end 2 digits are the more important ones):

0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.

I would suggest uninstalling all vital Drivers and re-installing. You should also run a ram checking program (google for one Smile)..

Me had the same problem, uninstalled SP2 and set graphics to 640x480x16 and low. I was able to play for a minute or so.. then I got the blue screen, but this time it didn't reboot.

It said nv4_disp.dll caused the error. I used 71.68 drivers before, now I use old ones (41.06) and it works perfectly (I had the same problem with Act Of War, it works now too Smile)

Me too gets the bluescreen, mostly when i start fighting people, sometimes it runs fine for like 10 minutes. downloaded the hoodlum- release and applied the foreign.language- crack.
the bluescreen says:

Stop: 0x00000001 (0xf7f829d0, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xf6010b03)

nvmmcp.sys - address f6919b03 base at f68be000 Datestamp 40b3cf79

What does this mean?

i play on:
Amd 3000+
Geforce 6800 gt
1024 mb ram
all the latest drivers

i think (!) i have sorted my reset problem now, it returned after i thought i had fixed it... ........

....i changed the audio driver from the one in the nvidia 5.10 forceware set to the realtek drivers reccomended by my motherboard manufacturer (MSI...Nforce2 kt7 delta2) ... but i also changed my graphics driver from the nvidia official 71.89 to the new betas 77.13, so i don't know what fixed it but i have been playing for @ 4 or 5 hours now without a problem

edit .. i wouldn't put it past rockstar to have an incompatabilty problem with the official nvidia drivers... i read in the main gta sa thread quite a few people changed graphic drivers and got better results

funny thing , after i posted the last msg i deleted all the registry etc then reinstalled the game , and it worked for 5 hours straight with no problem (sound accelaration to basic) . then i did some work , and after that played the game again . and the same black screen "when menu should come up" issue arrose . i kinda got around it by putting the exe in windows 2000 compatibilty mode , but then the game works without a hitch for 30-40 mins then just quits to desktop. so now im forced to play the game in 30 min chunks ,which dont really permit you to do more than 2 missions before you have to restart the game ... hope this helps some1 .

i wonder what issues will arrise in the morning

If I'm not mistaken there is no difference in performance between the clone and the hoodlum. You'll have the same errors. But if you don't have them, plz let us know. Wink

This morning I finally managed to play the game for like 10 minutes instead of the usual 5 seconds. But after that, the same error occured. Just used the compatibility mode with Win98 and changed some lines in the .ini file. But no real cure found yet.

Yep, the 8080 one. No problems with it whatsoever ... just with this stupid game. But when I look around, on isonews-fora and gtaforums.com there seem te be a lot of people having this error ... and it happens with all kinds of setups, so I think the problem is big enough for rockstar to make a patch for it ...

Well, I seem to have stopped the problem by setting my sound preferences to Basic via dxdiag.

But now I seem to have another problem, sometimes my screen just goes black, but the game is still going on, because I hear the ingame sounds and I can access the main menu (well, I think so, judging by the sound).
One thing is for sure, this game is released way to early thanks to the very bad bugtesting. First time Rockstar fails in my eyes.

But I finally reached the first savepoint ... so that's a start. Wink
