I mean.. In what way does clutch make you think "cool" or "awesome"? If anything it should be used to describe something negative since a clutch disengage the gears from the drive shaft.

Last year we had some new employees fresh out of university, and when they talk between each other, I'm starting to have trouble understanding what are they about. Not because of the slang, but because I'm not up to date with contemporary shit anymore.
I mean.. In what way does clutch make you think "cool" or "awesome"?
I think it comes from sports [the 80s origin], as in winning a close game. To clutch onto a hard won tense victory which is exciting and awesome for that teams fans.
Clutch:(in sport) denoting or occurring in a critical situation in which the outcome of a game or competition is at stake.
