Series Classic Final Fantasy V Coming to PC This Month
Square Enix today announced that Final Fantasy V will be available on Steam on September 24th. Originally released in 1992, Final Fantasy V weaves a classic tale of magic, monsters and friendship as players follow four unlikely heroes tied together by fate who embark on a journey to restore life to the world's four elemental crystals.
Players who pre-order Final Fantasy V on PC between now and its launch on September 24 will receive a ten percent (10%) discount for the game through the Steam store.
Features for Final Fantasy V on PC include
• Veteran character designer, Kazuko Shibuya, has returned to recreate the characters and graphics from the Game Boy Advance version for an enhanced experience.
• Updated controls and a newly optimized active-time battle system for an even more fluid PC experience
• A job and ability system featuring 26 unique classes that allows players to freely customize their four heroes to fit their unique play style
• The Sealed Temple, an additional dungeon originally featured in the 2006 version of Final Fantasy V for Game Boy Advance
• Enuo, an optional boss created by renowned designer Tetsuya Nomura
• Loads of obtainable Steam trading cards and achievements
fuck that, i bought FFVII through the square enix store a couple of years ago but never managed to get it to work thanks to linking the game through to my steam login. It just goes through a never ending loop taking me back to the log in screen to register the game. Waste of a tenner and I'm never buying anything through the Square Enix store ever again.

This means that VI will absolutely be coming too. Final Fantasy III (3D remake), IV (3D remake), V, VI (both Android ports), VII, VIII (both retouched PC originals) and then the later ones; XI, XIII-LRXIII3, XIV and now Type-0 too. I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that XV is coming, it's an almost guaranteed cert at this point.
It'd be nice to get 1+2 (both are on Android), IX (ehhhhh, no port ever existed so yeah, unlikely) and the 360/PS3/PS4 re-releases of X, X-2 and the upcoming XII.
VII got ported to iOS from the PC. Where, pray tell, is IX going to come from? So my point remains; no port of IX exists. Not now, not ever before. It would have to be ported from the PS1 and then, maybe, a route to PC would exist.. but so far, 15 years since release, IX is the only numbered entry that never been ported to anything else, it has remained on a solitary platform as PS1 title, or released emulated as a package for PSP/PS3.
FF11 (XI) is already out on PC, it launched on PC and PS2.
spoilers! Well it's a old game and you probably wouldn't understand the above drivel if you didn't know the game itself first, anyways it will be interesting to see it outside of the SNES fan translation for once.

Haha
One of my absolute favorite FF's... no retarded one quest at a time systems, no brainless auto-combat, open dungeons with no corridor shit, those were the days.
Doubt we'll ever get those days back, at least in this series

Some of the bonus dungeons in the re-releases of Final Fantasy 1 to 5 could get pretty tedious though but those were end-game challenges too I suppose so it was to be expected, seems the Steam release of FF4 and it's stand-alone add-on also isn't the "best" version with the most content though in turn it does have voice acting and is using 3D assets though a bit low-detail.
EDIT: And some of the bosses could be pretty cheap, optional bosses especially using instant death attacks spam and getting five to six turns for every one of yours.
FF13-3 or FF13 - Lighting Returns as it's called is probably somewhere too but I don't know what happened to those plans though I do hope the extra dev time has paid off.
Hell, I can froth and rage over the shitty sprites all day long... but if I had the cash; I'd have already bought this the instant it went up I'd do the same with VI... and III and IV too. I want the entire FF collection on Steam
Game runs at 60fps at all times, even in battle. Nice and smooth scrolling.
Character Sprites are terrible. They were terrible on Android/iOS and they're even more terrible here, blown up to 1080p.
Background visuals are, just like Android/iOS, lovely. Nice high res art that hasn't been butchered by a first year intern with MS Paint from Windows 3.1.
Enemy battlers are, for the most part, also lovely, though still pales in comparison to FFIVTCC on PSP.
Amano-style portraits are hilariously out of place in the game itself, considering none of them even remotely resemble the character sprites. Unless you've actually played the game and recognise the names, you'll have a hard time even figuring out who is talking
Text is very strange, characters are mismatched and sometimes look like they're different sizes and on different planes. Also appear slightly aliased in play, made more noticeable due to higher res at 1080p.
No separation of character name and character text, it's all mashed in together.
Full screen mode is off-centre with an annoying Left and Top border.
If you absolutely don't care about the character sprites (dear god why wouldn't you!?) then it's seemingly an okay port and worth trying.
just made a pic with the gfx "bugs" i mean, first of all the picture has black bars on the left and right and the texture look moved a certain points, dunno how to describe it. but you can clearly see it in the pic.
strange thing is in the announcement trailer it looks just fine without these errors
Wonder what this will be ported from.
(Hai, we bundled it with ZSnes this time. )
(Well no, probably some PSP or 3DS or other handheld or maybe mobile version of the game.)
EDIT: So I guess violence against monsters is totally OK according to that rating info eh?
(Do people still die in Final Fantasy or was that only back in Final Fantasy 2 where everyone just about died in some fancy way and to make it more complete they nuked most of the towns too just because. )
EDIT: That actually reminds me, the first two Final Fantasy games aren't on Steam yet right?
(Wonder if/when those will be ported and what version they'll be from if so, bit fractured if I remember it correctly with various versions having this or that artwork or sound "enhancement" and maybe this or that bonus dungeon or overly ridiculous uberboss battles ha ha.)
(Well I guess the bosses of the first Final Fantasy aren't too impressive really, a blackbelt / monk with some grinding with backup from the black & white mage could oneshot the final boss without too much trouble, while naked as equipment made his stats worse at that point.)
most likely the mobile version will be ported like in case of IV and V
Wonder if that means higher possibility of FFT or Chrono Trigger or other squeenix titles released recently on mobile
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
