A new Star Wars film has been greenlit.
https://www.starwars.com/news/taika-waititi-announce
- Taika Waititi is set to co-write and direct. Waititi directed the finale of The Mandalorian's first season.
- Krysty Wilson-Cairns will co-write with Waititi. Wilson-Cairns co-wrote the recent mega hit 1917, and two episodes of season 3 of Penny Dreadful.
There is no planned release date yet.
Waititi = very promising

"May the fourth be with you..."
It seems Waititi has become the hip hotshot of the last couple of years. We'll see how long that will work out. Besides, any Star Wars project started now won't see they light of day until 2-3 years from now.

All I expect is some good entertainement and with Waititi thats a distinct possibility.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The only comfort that I have is that it will be difficult to produce a worse outcome than the last one. A small consolation, but that's all we can hope for with Star Wars these days

I wouldn't mind a light hearted, but still emotional SW movie. Most likely it will be one of those side-story movies, so here's hoping for another Solo-esque non-Jedi-heavy story. I mean the new trilogy was a disaster, but the standalone movies were pretty decent.

I imagine Waititi will try to make it more lighthearted, self-aware and witty like most of his movies, then the Disney drones will tear it all apart and force him to make it edgy and shit.
The only way to salvage anything from this fucked franchise is to set the story many millennia before the other movies, during the time of the Sith Empire, and lean into books and games for some much needed world building and lore.

Old Republic and stuff like that would be the only way to remotely spark my interest now (aside from little snippets in the SW universe à la Mandalorian or Rogue One), they effectively managed to kill any interest I had in seeing whatever might happen after the nu-trilogy.

I just don't see why he's a good fit for a Star Wars movie. And yes I like his films.
Then again I don't even know what a Star Wars movie should be any more.
