Tales from the Loop is an upcoming American drama television series based on the narrative art book with the same title by Simon Stålenhag set to premiere on Amazon Video.
Tales from the Loop explores "the town and people who live above “The Loop,” a machine built to unlock and explore the mysteries of the universe – making things possible that were previously relegated only to science fiction."
Looks great
Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube
I will wait for some reviews. I get the setting but stories based on a painting can go really wrong.

edit: ep2 was like finding out the sexy girl you dated yesterday has a penis. Bad
Ep3 was alright, barely. The two stories weren't really interesting. I am disappointed, but I must point out I expected something different. It's extremely simple atm.
@tet666 does the story get better than "random tech appears -> magic happens -> insert simple life lesson -> the end"? Or is this just what the show is?
@Mister_s In a way yes but that never really bothered me. Each episode focuses on a set a characters in the town and builds up the characters and their lives within the town and the Loop. The Sci-fi aspect of the show is very light compared to what I thought. It feels like that part of the show is more set and setting, rather than the focus and driving factor in the story. Lots of feels without being lame.
Interesting setting and mood. The actual stories told though are very mundane, too mundane and uninteresting for me. They have this amazing/interesting setting but only is it for slice-of-life stories about people in a small town. I've watched the first three episodes (well, half of the second, it was watching paint dry) and the first episode was definitely the best. The third is a very very simple story about teen love told through the light sci-fi setting. Not my cup of tea. Basically a variation of the second episode.
it's a very mellow series, sort of dreamy, very simple day in the life of people experiencing strange things happening. I like it and the music fits perfectly but want to know more about the the loop itself and it's overall purpose
I liked the melancholy of it and the soundtrack is undeniably great, but overall this series is a lot of wasted potential. I don't mind that they chose to focus on the slice of life stories instead of the Loop itself, but they needed to execute them better.
I think the main issue is that it's hard to relate to the characters. Sometimes they react to the weird shit like a normal person would, sometimes they don't, and you never know if it's because that particular type of weird shit is actually relatively common in this world, or because the writing is bad.
Even on a basic human level they behave strangely.
Spoiler:
What is the best way to protect my family? Buy a trash robot to parade it around and awkwardly punch things!
My clone from an alternate reality appears out of nowhere. Whatever, shit happens, I'm gonna invite him to live on my property immediately. I'm sure it'll work out.
My son's best friend steals his life and leaves his consciousness to suffer inside a shitty two-legged robot for months/years? Meh, the guy wasn't even that mad before he died a (presumably) painful death. Let's not make a big deal out of it and even let him and his daughter hang around our other son!
I would've preferred if they didn't set the series in one location and made the stories unrelated to each other. They should also have featured more of Stalenhag-inspired tech and kept it more grounded (WTF at that hilariously OP device from Ep. 3 that works according to completely arbitrary rules. Is this Numenera?).

Its purpose is to be a plot device that allows the strange things to happen. I don't think they're planning to ever explain much. I also doubt this will get a Season 2.
I finally finished it, waste of potential as sauronich said. The stories are so simple, it's basically three sentences worth of story told in 50 minutes. None of it is actually imaginative or new. Looks good though.
6.5/10, you won't miss anything if you don't watch it. It's basically a bad version of Black Mirror (when it was good). Only the first ep was worth the effort, but it's mostly due to expecting much more from the following eps.
