The game is very much a Gothic like game a probably the most non-PB game that feels like that. It launches in 2 weeks and they have a Demo out on Steam. Played the demo for a few hours and loved it. Worth taking a look for any Gothic fans out there.

Of Ash and Steel is an immersive third-person open-world RPG created by a passionate team that values the essence of classic old-school RPGs and modern designs. Explore the lands of a once-prosperous island, hone your combat skills, and survive in the unforgiving realm of the Kingdom of the Seven.
Release? Today it means nothing, if it means "release in early access" (so early alpha, play the game to report bugs for free) or a more finished release.
The demo is fine. Prologue at the beach felt a bit more like an adventure game than an RPG(give X to Y, Y gives you Z and a hint for another npc), but it was pretty fun.
The forest after the prologue has a lot of stuff to do, but I stopped playing since saves from the demo will be incompatible with the full version. Combat seems weak, but it's probably like Gothic, you get better when you unlock tresholds.
They did go a bit overboard with intro cinematics though
