The 518 has 3 modes of sensetivity so if you are in game would need 3 sets of sensetivity then it is great. And the DPI is 1600 so the mouse pointers move will be much closer to your mouse movement. I am getting the mx1000 as I am a causual gamer playing for fun and mostly rts games.

So the mx-1000 is more for casual gaming and general work while the mx-518 is for more intense gaming?

Many stores have good open return policy so you could buy both, test them out. And return the one you liked less.

Just got the Logitech Mx1000 Midnight and I LOOOOOVE it, right now I am installing some of the software. Installed, it quite nice. Going to reboot soon. I have set the side buttons to move up or move down through tabs : )

Personally, I think for gaming you're going to wan to go with the MX510 or 518... I'm not a fan of cordless mice... anyways... I have a 510 and it's amazing...
