I fucking hate that word. I hate the thought that the company has no use for me. After 7 years and 11 months I’ve been made redundant again and for the 3rd time. My employer lost our contract and I’m being TUPE’ied into the one than won for a brief time.

Tomorrow is my last day with my current employer and it hasn’t quite hit me that I won’t be coming into this office again after Tuesday. On the plus side I’m being paid for 45 days to do nothing so plenty of time for doing my own thing and earning money at the same time. After that I hope to get a nice payout!

The slate will be wiped clean and who knows, redundancy might turn out to be a good thing and lead to something better Smile

I’m glad you’re able to see the positive side at least.

Good luck and courage!

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

At work, I gradually got put in a position where I help decide who gets to work and who doesn't (in Belgium there's something called temporary unemployment). Let me tell you: it's a very shit job to have and it's often due to outside influences that a company is forced to lay people off. Losing a big contract, unexpected rising costs forcing them to try and save money (and wages are a big cost), ...

The important part, is that you don't feel like you got done wrong. These things happen and generally for each job lost in one place, another appears in another place so don't give up!

Thanks for the comments guys. It was a bit of an emotional last day and very surreal thinking I won’t be going back there anymore. Positive thoughts is the way to go for sure and I’m focusing on the next job being better than the last! For the moment I figured I would have a holiday for the next couple of months before seeking employment. And giving up is not an option! I got another 30 years before I can retire, plus I have a daughter I have to pay for! Smile

That's the spirit Headshot It's a situation that does inevitably suck and the sense of unfairness is an ugly one, but seeing the glass half full and applying the pseudo-carpe diem technique are always the best antidotes. Best of luck!

Keep up the positive attitude, headshot! Like ixig said, adopting the glass full attitude already means you've taken a step in the right direction. Take care and be well. Smile

1 and 2 are still amazing.
