It's just some kind of foam/plastic underneath and one thin layer of cloth on top.
How do you wash em?
Mine are "bright" in the middel, which is where my hand rests most of the time, so it's human skin / fat.
Any experience with cleaning it to be like new but without wearing the materials out too much?

I have the stupid Steelseries mousepad that a lot of people have (black with the white logo in the corner) - it kinda sucks but it is washable. I wash every ~4-5 months or so at 40°C
The one I have (corsair) is something like that, I clean it with lukewarm water and dry it on a line. Preferable not drying on a bright sunny day as in discolouration and youdon't want to introduce too much heat onto it or the top layer might separate.
If it is really dirty one could try a mild hand soap... but better not use any soap at all.
Could always get a new one if its old, they don't cost that much.
I have steelseries qck for 5 years and it looks brand new.
You can use that glued lint roller on it every time You are dusting or whatever or even better - Just vacuum it violently with a brush adapter. It takes the "dead skin" away in seconds.
I've never washed mine

Well mine is also starting to develop this sharp edges. Since I keep it at the edge of my desk, it's very irritating... any cloth mousepads with rounded edges? (not stitched since the bump would kill my wrists blood pressure)

No issues with sharp edges on my qck, but some of the corners are peeling off a little (only 1-2mm) and it has gotten a bit softer and wavy over time. But not sure if that's because of the washing, or just because of old age and constant abuse.
When I wash it I just put it with the clothes, 1 hour seems to be the shortest setting on my machine, 40°C and 1000RPM. Fuck that it's not getting any special treatment.

still using my 10+ years old speedpad (think i bought it, dunno, maybe 2004?). holds on like a champ, since its full plastic stuff just wash it, spray silicon on it and its like new
@Mr.Tinkles: Yup, the black one in a nice tin box. Is as fresh today as yeeeears ago when I bought it together with the Logitech G9x I'm STILL using (and it's working as fine as it did when it was new).

Mine has "baldspots" where I dragged the mousey.
And since I had such fond memories of the old-school func surface when I saw that func was reborn I bought the new 1030, it wasn't as good as the old one.
Anywho Paxaxa, just use a damp microfiber cloth and wipe it clean.

Talk dirty to me!
If there's sticky stuff on it besides just the fatty leftovers from your paws you could always use a little bit of soap or other detergent.
Don't use your tongue though, that's a rookie move.
I have cleaned my Corsair MM200 extended mat with alcohol wipes and "magic sponge", or whatever that is called in rest of the world (white sponge, that magically erases nearly every shit on every surface), stays clean, no need to "wash" mats.
No mousepad here, I use high-pressure laminate on my desk, works great with all mice and easy to clean too, and no problems with limited sizes of mouse pads
