Unreal Redux is a fan made project to remake the game Unreal which was released in the year 1998. This remake will stay close to the original game but will be enhanced with new features.
Unreal 1 was revolutionary for its time and the Redux version will transport the player back into the past to revive the unique feelings and emotions conveyed by the original game.
This remake is based and runs on Unreal Engine 1 which is extremely enhanced by the new oldunreal’s 227 patch. Therefore, the remake is able to catch the flair and atmosphere of the original Unreal while beeing improved with new visual effects and gameplay mechanics.
The insane weaponry of Unreal becomes more visually stunning than before and gives now the feedback that they are kicking asses for sure!
Unreal Redux will be a new experience to everyone who is stranded on NaPali.

Anyway - this is one of the most nostalgic games to me ever. I remember 1997, my first vodoo card and that castle flyby... and the waterfall accompanied by that music....

Did you watch the trailer in the OP?
The added shaders and other effects loook much better to me than just using higher res textures - though i guess it will be possible to combine both.

i think it does. Because ive been playing the maximum textured version of that mod for years. I have it installed at this moment. A youtube video doesnt do it justice, but the game can look outstanding at times, just by those high res textures alone. They're incredibly high res textures.
As far as i can tell from this redux version, they're using faaar lower res textures and the aditional post processing doesnt trump that in my opinion.
Might give this a try, last time I saw Unreal 1 was 18 years ago.

Kentie's Direct3D10 renderer and all the high-res textures are already enough for my needs (Unreal's distinct quality art-style definitely helps - and then there's Alexander Brandon's soundrack ), but I too will give a try to this version as well once (well, if ) it will be released. Having improved feedback and shooting could especially be an interesting tweak if done well.

First of all I have to say thank you for sharing my project here.
I like to say something about this project and about the work I'm doing.
Unreal Redux is mostly an one men project and I create everything in my sparetime.
Everything you have seen in the short trailer was created by my self.
But I can't do everything by my self I also have very talented programmers in the background they support me where they can.

I hope you noticed by looking at the comparison screenshots that I changed a lot of the Level geometry and added new details here and there.
I'm touching over thousands of things in each level to get this results.
I'm using Unreal's original textures so every player will be able to play Unreal Redux with the s3tc textures.
And since Unreal Redux runs on Unreal Engine 1 there are no post processing.
Unreal Redux will trump the original atmosphere by far even without the s3tc textures.
So and now some information about the progress..
Actually I'm working on the Terraniux which is the 11th map in the single player campaign.
All Weapons do already have new visual effects ( Projectile + MuzzleFlash )
Most of the monsters do also have new visual effects only a few are missing now.
All new effects in count are about 300+ hand crafted particle emitter.

There is a modification, created by Lightning Hunter, which allows the player to use HD Skins for Weapons, Plants, Trees, Decoration etc...
Some of my models are different to the original but I will ship Unreal Redux with a mutator that fix compatibility issues with the HD Skin Texture Pack.
Or maybe I add all HD skins directly to my modification.
It's amusing how they managed to add even MORE lens flare than the original
But honestly, I don't think Unreal needs a make-over. The original was so good looking at the time that even today it looks crisp and colourful. Quake II on the other hand ... grey, brown, dull. Shame Unreal didn't have better combat.

Oh yes I see =) you are right its my fault. I was more active @ UnrealSP.org and keep posting pictures there.
I'm also more active on my YouTube channel, there I answered a lot of relevant questions about this project in the comment section of the trailer.
