The crystals from an LCD screen need to turn, whereas the phosphorus from a conventional CRT is bombarded by electrons. Electrons fired by a cathode (from a CRT) travel at a fraction of the speed of light, which is much much faster than the turning speed of the crystals from the LCD. Hence LCDs appear to be laggy. 8ms panels are suitable for vicious FPS deathmatches, but most LCDs still aren't quite equal to CRTs in terms of contrast.

A crt has a responce time of about 0,7ms compare that to the fastest lcd/tft tha has a response time around 8ms, the fastest ones are still about 10times slower than a cheap crt!

One distinct advantage of LCDs over CRTs is the much lower power usage (35W for a 17" LCD compared to 115W for my 19" Hansol 920P ). Consequently, they also dissipate much less heat than CRTs
