Fortitude is a British drama television series created and written by Low Winter Sun's Simon Donald.A first 12 episode season was commissioned by Sky Atlantic in 2013, and will air in January 2015.
Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston, Sofie Grabol, Richard Dormer, Jessica Raine, Luke Treadaway, Nicholas Pinnock and Johnny Harris will star in the 12 episode drama, which is centered on a mysterious death in the Arctic Circle and will be filmed in Iceland and the UK.
Fortitude is a place like nowhere else. Although surrounded by the savage beauty of the Arctic landscape, Fortitude is one of the safest towns on earth. There has never been a violent crime here. Until now. In such a close-knit community a murder touches everyone and the unsettling, mysterious horror of this crime threatens the future of the town itself.
Interesting ominous mood to it. Odd how they tweak sfx up and down. Like if there's an AC in a room, they sometimes tune that and other ambient noise up a whole lot in and around dialogue.
Good point, we haven't really gotten close to any of the characters. We're dropped into it. Sort of unsure of which one to root for type of problem maybe. They might devote some episodes to fleshen them out a bit more to make it easier to care what happens to them.

Thinking that a lot of the perspective will be set from the investigator guy arriving late in the episode... he's new and as he takes stuff in, so will the viewer..

It was 'full frontal showing everything', it's a scene from a Scandinavian sauna, they are mixed and they do walk round with no clothes or swimming cossies, I know from experience as an embarrassed teenager visiting Sweden. There was also full frontal male nudity later in the episode, apparently that was censored in the US as well.

PS I liked the pilot. Although there were no likable characters, like at all. But it doesn't bother me. I'll watch it for the story,the setting and the atmosphere.

Watched the first episode just last night. I quite enjoyed it and intrigued how things will pan out.

I was pleased to hear Christopher Eccleston was in this but was shocked to find he died in the first episode! lol. I guess he might be appear in future episodes as part of flashbacks or something since he appears to be centre to the story. So there were some Northern Lights/Aurora Borealis and some crazy shit happened that was not shown? Now its down to 'Mark Strong' to figure it out?
You can tell Luke Treadaway is Harry Treadaway's (Dr Frankenstein in Penny Dreadful) brother. They look and sound so alike!
What the fucking fuck was the ending in episode 7 all about!? I thought she might kill her but cut her open with a fork and spew what in her guts!?!? WTF?
