Banana-fly hell-zone I guess, or whatever the little things are actually called.
(Easy to fix though, at least until he eggs hatch but you would generally have thrown the pear-ish remains away at that point. )
EDIT: On the note of expired fruit the local commune here installed these brown bins for bio recycling for fuel and such about a year back, they only empty them once a month however so cue people over filling the hell out of them in a very quick amount of time and during hotter months it stinks something awful (Sea food especially.) and insects have all the fun in those things, little white maggots everywhere.
(Also a ton of bird and other animals taking a interest in the thing at that point.)
Recycling isn't bad as such but it wouldn't hurt to empty the bins bi-weekly instead.
