I know more than well how awful tooth ache can be, pretty much slacked all my life on cleaning my teeth and now suffer from it occasionally, usually around a week at a time.
Basicly impossible to sleep for the week the pain lasts, no matter how many painkillers I take or what kind.
Heavily salted water relieves it a little, only real help I have found for it, just wash it in your mouth for a few minutes, tastes like shit but it helps for me atleast.
First thing I'm gonna do when I get my financial shit together (some day..) is full dental care.

I have a bad habit of postponing dental care till it hurts so damn much I can't function anymore.

Book a time Badrien, you know you can't avoid it! In the meantime if you have Ibuprofen take that, usually it's the only thing that helped for me when it was toot ache related. It will numb down the inflammation.
2 if it's the normal one, just 1 if it's the 900mg one (and 4 gram is the maximum daily dosis)

I know this'll sound funny but it worked instantaneously for me, oh and this comes from someone who had quite some treatments for his bad teeth (like 8 or so fillings, two root canal treatments and some more shit like 30+ needles during work on the gum and so on): Get an appointment at the dentist.

meh, between my fear of dentists(somewhat of an anti dentite here =P) and the amount of money it would cost to get things fixed its really not an option.
The retarded thing is I have always taken proper care of my teeth, brushed 3 times a day and whatnot, never ate much candy or drank sugary drinks. Was on medication when I was younger, apparently its like kryptonite to teeth >_>
I need to call the jaw surgeon to have some of the stuff fixed and my last wisdom tooth taken out, but even for that I cant seem to pick up the phone and call, 2 mates of mine have had it occur that the knockout gas(forgot the name lol) Knocked them out but not fully.
Being (even slightly) conscious while they remove stuff like that would be more traumatizing to me than the stabbing and car accident I was in combined
painkiller wise Taking a mix of natrixiumacid ,ibuproven and asperines, works somewhat but might just be the weed thats working and the painkillers are just for decoration or something

Controversial advice from the duck.
8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

Ooh I can relate to that. I have fear of going to the dentist as well the only time I go is when I'm nearly dying from pain
My girlfriend is a dental hygienist and boy does she whine on me every week to go on check ups

Yeah hence the jaw surgeon. Stopped using local altogether a few years ago,not sure if its the weed use or something else but that shit just didnt wortk for me. He'd gave me a triple dose, my face would feel wierd, but it didnt numb the pain of w/e he was gonna do even by 20%. Rather have the same pain but no wierd feeling face instead.
but the things that need to be done atm(wisdom tooth, 1 other tooth pulled and some heavy drilling for this pain probably) I just cant endure that consciously, so i'd have taken my own mallet=P

Pretty much what is stopping me from going to dentist aswell, I could get it all for free I guess but I'm just way too scared of that shit, I can't do it without proper anesthetics or sleep.

Hah, funny you made this thread.
I just had the worst 3 days of my life because of an unexpected tooth infection that showed no obvious signs except for ball grabbing pain.
Oh god, worst pain i have ever had. Called my dentist at midnight and he gave me a prescription for hydrocodone which helped. Ended up getting a root canal, not I have antibiotics for a week and he can close it up.

Ouch man, I feel ya.. although I surely hope ^ wont be a glimpse into my future *knocks on wood*
at the point now where the pain is managable with painkillers, as long as i dont clench my teeth(they dont fit on top of each other properly anymore either, the painfull tooth has obviously risen a bit). eating hard but doable.

Ohoho,the right topic for me.
I didn't go to the dentist for a looooong time, had more done previously than Pumpy but stopped (scared shitles, the discussion about dentists alone made me hide like a scared cat during vaccuum cleaning sessions).
Because i ignored every problem i had with my teeth, they were in a really bad shape and i had to visit a local jaw-surgeon that offered intravenous anesthesia (sleeping during the whole process). They used Propofol btw, kinda doubt that someone gets "addicted" to that stuff because it wasn't a good feeling at all.
There was a lot to be pulled out and the whole healing process wasn't really that great,do not ask how many teeth had to be removed (a lot).I would have killed for a few 20mg Oxycodon pills.
So,there i am,wearing plastic teeth thingys for a long while that start to stink like a dead weasel after an hour (even if you cleaned them and your remaining teeth for a good 20 minutes). You have to "wear" them to protect the wounds and to create the illusion that you might still eat solid things (you can not). Not really enough cash to get implants done in the next two years so after these cheap plastic teeth,i will get better cheap plastics, yay.
Even if you're scared and afraid of the pain-->go to the dentist or you end like me.Early 30s and way too many teeth missing.I really miss them

Jesus, you guys. Go to the fucking dentist. Regularly! Like, at least once a year. I go twice.
I love going to the dentist, even though I had my fair share of bad experiences. Got an implant a couple of years ago with only local anesthesia, wasn't that bad. Unfortunately the dentist botched it, and the metal piece came out of the bone after a couple of weeks. That wasn't the bad part though, didn't hurt at all, could eat again the same evening.
The bad part was the second operation, to get the metal really in this time. Apparently the bone was too thin, so they had to attach more bone tissue to that part of the jaw bone. And you get bone tissue from your own bones, it grows back like anything. So they took some bone tissue from further back in my jaw. Again, local anesthesia only. Could feel the sawing and everything. Then they nailed that piece of bone to the other part, drilled in there, got the implant in again, and now, 5 years later, everything is still fine.
And I still go to the dentist twice a year. Fear is for pussies!

Man, I go to the dentist like 5 times a year at least. Twice to clean, gum check, and then regular visits for cavities or other work if I need.
Still some people can't afford, I'm lucky enough to have good dental insurance through my current job.
This time, I just got caught off-guard...

This. I've had like 8 cavities, but I never felt any tooth pain in my life. What did hurt was my wisdom teeth erupting in my early 20's, but I didn't do anything about it.

Here's a pic of the hole the dentist left in my tooth, he said the infection needs to drain, so I'm stuck like this for a fucking week. Eating anything sucks cause foods keeps getting trapped inside :/

Damn betty : / and twist : / I wanna jump of my balcony dammit
will have to see how insurance is done with tooth surgeon, cause simply cannot afford the work done at the dentist, even if I could overcome the mental block(which I cant for pulling teeth)

I seriously cannot understand why people avoid the dentist. I lost one tooth when I was 12, got a root canal treatment. That was a real wake-up call. Now I'm 27 and that's the only dead one, the rest are fine, aside from some fillings. I have them checked twice a year, floss regularly and wash them after every meal (which might be an overkill, but I do it carefully).
A friend of mine has had 9 (!) root canal tratments, plus one extracted, just because he also always considered going to the dentist as a last resort. And in Poland basic stuff like fillings and checkup is covered by our obligatory health insurance, so it's not like you can use the "costs too much" argument. Besides, you know what really costs a lot? Crowns, dentures and implants.

That sucks Badrien :< (and other Humpers too)
The only problem for me is the money, since even basic stuff costs around 100€ when you're lucky. And if you need constant 'serious' treatment, oh boy. They really like to swim in banknotes don't they xD. I hope you manage to find a way to fix that part, 'cause living with those problems only makes the situation worse..
I had all my 4 wisdom teeth removed some years ago, 2 at time, and I swear that bastard used like the 50% of the required anaesthetic. Either that, or he chose a super-cheap one from the black market. It was so damn painful . But it's not always like that, my new dentist for example uses some new stuff that works wonders even if it's 100% local. Try to ask around, people will surely know who's the gentlest teeth exterminator in your zone.

I really don't understand your reasoning. Yes going to a dentist is expensive, but what other choice do you have?
I can tell you this though, it will get FAR worse and MORE expensive if you don't go to a dentist soon, the faster the better.
Tooth ache - delay - pulp dies - root canal

I don't know how healthcare stuff works in the NL but in Germany there is the possibility to get the costs for that full-knockout anesthesia covered by the basic health insurance.
You only have to apply as "phobia patient" and find a surgeon that works together with someone who is allowed to pump people full with Michael Jackson sleepfluid

Badrien: I think it should be free to get the checkup and at least ask for the removal of the tooth? This should be covered by your general health care (that you have in NL, right?), where you don't need some special dental plan... At least it works like this here in germany and I doubt it's that much different

Have to pay for the anastesia for the surgeon mostly, but that has long waiting list.
Dentist I always have to pay, checkup is 45 bucks, and thats just him looking at shit.
problem is hes a special scaradypants dentist, and even with that its unbearable.
called today hes on vacation, the one his answering machine referred me to wasnt a scaradypants dentist so I dont even have to try that. Should have asked for some pain medication from them though. First gonna try with my normal doctor see if he can prescribe something since hes just around the corner
ill have to wait this out and see how soon I can get an appointment with the surgeon.
meanwhile pain is worse then it has been so far, cant think properly anymore. popping painpills like m&ms aint doin shit. tooth moved more upwards too, goddammit >_<

If you are taking paracetamol -> think of your liver, don't go over the daily dosis, drink lots of water to lessen the burden on your kidneys/liver. You don't want to break that stuff because of a rotting tooth
