A new Fear Effect game is set to take to Kickstarter - with Square Enix's blessing.
But this new Fear Effect won't be a big budget affair - as Fear Effect on PSone was. Instead, it'll be an indie game from a little-known studio that's using crowdfunding to raise development cash.
Sushee was inspired by Harebrained Schemes' superb turn-based tactical role-playing game Shadowrun Returns when designing the gameplay for the new Fear Effect. An isometric camera perspective will let the player control up to five characters at the same time, with a focus on strategy when it comes to the combat. The idea is the characters work together, combining their attacks and defensive actions for maximum effect.
As for the story, Sushee's Fear Effect is not a reboot. Rather, it is a sequel to the second and unreleased third game.
If the Kickstarter, which targets €100,000, is successful, Sushee hopes the new Fear Effect will launch on PC mid 2017. Console versions are a stretch goal.
Wish there was those epic death scenes/vids from the previous games but guess we'll not see 'em anymore...
Shame, but it's nice to see the gals back in action.
....Must replay the original ones again one day....Specially FE2, never played it...

I don't remember much of the originals, except that - at the time - I thoroughly enjoyed them. Since this has SE's blessing, I'm wondering something could be done to get high-res FE1/FE2 on PC at some point?

I played about an hour of FE1 a couple of years ago for the first time.
If they somehow can get less compressed videos from some archive of theirs it would be cool to have a PC release. As they are on the PSX, they don't hold up at all today. Super pixelated backgrounds.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Sadly that holds true for the vast majority of FMVs from the PS era FF7/FF8 had tons of FMVs and they looked great back then, but today? Markedly less so
God i loved those games back in the day the setting and art style was amazing, can't remember too much about the story though maybe i should replay them.
With the low target goal I hope this gets funded as the old games were great and it would be nice to be able to play a game with these characters again.
i remember wanking to some of the scenes in the first game as a kid
Hahah, I never played the games, but after some perusing I can see the eros factor flowing through them
Spoiler:
I imagine this would be unacceptable for nowadays social inquisition though, that's why the new iteration is set in winter and the girls wear heavy coats.

Did as Ixigia and looked up some media for these games, never played them myself though but it seems they had some content that might not be entirely easy to include these days.
There is porn for that these days.
Seriously i don't see anything wrong with the genre jump could be a good thing we don't really need another third person action game but there is enough room for a good modern day turn-based role-playing game and they can still show some tits n ass in the cut scenes.
Some things i dislike:
- The graphics in the minigame looked very cheapish done.
- The combat gameplay looks very basic.
- Camera is zoomed in too much for my taste.
- The voices in the cutscene at the end have a bad recording quality.
Also they were barely hearable with those loud environmental sounds.
For me it looks a bit better then I thought but Hana does have a weird run animation that could be fixed since this is just an early prototype build. Same reason I am not too concerned with the cutscene dialogues at this point as I am sure it was something they just rushed to get out there to try and get some more backers to meet the Kickstarter goal. I am a bit surprised that they have not reached their goal and wonder if they will get another 25k in a week to get this funded. Square Enix should really just give the rest to get this project going if it does end up failing to meet the Kickstarter goal.

It's an alpha they scrapped together to have something to show for the kickstarter so a lot can and will change if it get's funded.
And a lot might just stay the same! It's a game with Scamstarter! I backed my last game with Scam citizen.
I have only backed one game and it was Bard's Tale IV just for the simple fact at that point I did not own Wasteland 2 which was free to backers and the lowest it had ever gone was $20 so it was liking getting both games for $10 each. With so many quick sales and bundles going on now it is hard to want to pay a lot for games.
