"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Aristotle.Metaphysics.book1.section982b.12-28 wrote:
That it is not a productive science is clear from a consideration of the first philosophers. It is through wonder that men now begin and originally began to philosophize; wondering in the first place at obvious perplexities, and then by gradual progression raising questions about the greater matters too, e.g. about the changes of the moon and of the sun, about the stars and about the origin of the universe. Now he who wonders and is perplexed feels that he is ignorant (thus the myth-lover is in a sense a philosopher, since myths are composed of wonders); [20] therefore if it was to escape ignorance that men studied philosophy, it is obvious that they pursued science for the sake of knowledge, and not for any practical utility. The actual course of events bears witness to this; for speculation of this kind began with a view to recreation and pastime, at a time when practically all the necessities of life were already supplied. Clearly then it is for no extrinsic advantage that we seek this knowledge; for just as we call a man independent who exists for himself and not for another, so we call this the only independent science, since it alone exists for itself.

There is alot more to this text than you may realize at first read.

No.

Paxlation:

Quote:
People don't know how shit works, makes them feel awe and ignorance.
Science wasn't pursued for it's practical utility, but for knowledge.
Evidence for this is that people already had everything they needed.
Science exist for it's own sake (curiosity), not practical utility.

Well, those are already a few ideas in this text, just in a more elaborate and finished grammatical form. As should be normal in a society like the ancient greek. There is nothing overly complex about it. A very easy to understand text by Aristotle. Its not because we are not used to this kind of language, that you can conclude that Aristotle would purposefully write in a difficult way.
