Seems my other half has dropped her phone (Xperia Z3 compact) and cracked the screen. Can't use it any more.
Checked up on pricing for repair, seems Sony crooks want about 230€ with shipping, other places seem to ask around 150€ Contacted some nearby place to see what they are asking but I bet its about the same seeing that the parts cost about 80/100€ and then work hour.
Thinking of getting the parts and tools and fix it myself. Used to repair laptops back in the days so shouldn't be too hard and looking at the videos it looks rather simple.
Anyone that has experience with it? Maybe more important anyone in Sweden that knows a good shop to order the screen and tools? Think the one I quickly glanced at was Teknikdelar.se or something haven't looked how trustworthy it is and such.
Now I feel bad that I bought the new Deus Ex yesterday... money could have gone to the phone repair instead.

My sister has killed her iphone more times than I can remember. And she even fixed the cracked screen on her own up until the iphone 5 and it cost her like 35€ a pop, she got quite good at it in the end.
The screen instead of the fucking glass back broke?
Personally i would sell that phone as it is and buy a new one.
There are several nice and rather cheap phones from for example Huawei or Honor. Or get a used LG G3 or G4. They also have better hardware specs and newer software than that Sony thing.
Enthoo Evolv ATX TG // Asus Prime x370 // Ryzen 1700 // Gainward GTX 1080 // 16GB DDR4-3200
useless, not worth what you have to pay. you wont get the replacement parts much cheaper, maybe 10-20 bucks less for a cheap display which looks like ass
replacement itself isnt the problem, can be done by anyone without two left hands.
but investing 80-100euros in spare parts isnt worth the rest value of the device. friend of mine destroyed his z3 compact three times in 6 weeks... either he is stupid or its just low quality. but my point, after the 3rd time i refused to repair it for him cause its not worth it it to spend money on it. to rescue stuff from it use a usb-otg adapter to connect a mouse to unlock it and then get a new phone
@bob: most likely only that glass and glued touch unit broke, but you cant get them as separate parts for that device and you have to replace the rubber thingies which are there to make it waterproof etc or whatever. thats the reason there are no spare parts for the glass and touch only. just complete display units with everything (but without the rubberstuff, that costs 4-5 euros extra)
I wrecked my old Z a couple of times and managed to fix everything wrong with it with both left hands When I got a quota for the screen they told me 100 quid. Got a spare for 20 and did it myself. Didn't notice anything wrong with the cheaper replacement screen other than a slightly darker spot on it after going mad with tap titans for 2 weeks
80€ not worth for a phone we paid 400 for? Come on... it's not like it broke before. Just unlucky with the phone falling while it was out of its cover on pavement with those shitty little rocks they use for snow here.
Our finances aren't that great so a new phone is out of the question. Otherwise I would have indeed not bothered at all and buy a new one or just get a subscription+phone.
But yeah it is shitty that screen and glass are one piece... makes it all as expensive as it is.
IF you want to buy a new one for what ever reason (maybe two left hands afterall ) check out the honor 5x. a friend bought it and it looks pretty nice for 200 euros.
hell 1 night chaturbate and she can buy herself a new note and a new pc + vive for you.
DO IT DO IT DO IT. i wish i would be a pretty girl i would be so full of money
80€ for a spare part vs 200€ for a new phone, I'd go for the 80€ especially if you actually like the phone.
Yup that's the thing she quite likes it and we're both not really into getting a phone every year and such. I'll hear what that local shop has to say but I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up ordering the parts myself.
She can't really miss her phone: work, calls from nurses/doctor for me and Pokemon ofcourse xD So can't really drag it out either.
Ebay has them for around 25-35£ (that's GBP and not Euro). There are probably other and cheaper places to get it from but I'd start there.
Kinda like this one
thats those cheap chinese rebuild crap displays (yeah yeah everything comes from china, but these things are really low quality), trust me -> they look like ass. thats why they are able to sell them for 40 euros
@morph: its not about what you paid for it when you got it (or she). its about the actual value it has now, and thats not more than 100 euros. you can get used z3 compacts in good condition for 100 euros. if you dont want to spend more money and liked that -> go for a used one in good condition. safes you much hassle with replacing the display yourself (which can be a pain in the ass cause of the rubber thingys i mentioned) and isnt really more expensive. as i said the cheap fuck replacement displays you get on ebay are really really bad
normal insurance doesnt pay for your stupidity or bad luck (can happen to anyone to drop it and it lands bad). and those extra smartphone insurances (which cover waterdamage, drop damage whatever) for 5-10 euros a month are just stupid (unless you destroy your phone every few weeks ,but then they will kick you out )
Bought an ifixit kit a few years ago. Assembled an iphone 5 as a replacement to my 4S from cheap spare parts from ebay and a working motherboard from a friend, sold the scrap etc. 'twas worth it. The ifixit kit was well worth the investement, plus you get the fun from doing it yourself.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
The china screens are fine, I had to swap the screen on my Z3C aswell, only had a tiny crack in a corner but the touch panel cable was straight underneath it and it broke that so no touch...
One of the easiest screen swaps I have done. Still get cancer everytime I have to swap a display for some Iphone...
and dont forget the rubber thingy shutfuck stuff (unless you mean the glued sealing stuff with the adhesive you ordered too)
@stige: no, not the cheap ones. there are pricier ones (about 70 euros) which were fine and not original sony stuff. the cheap 40 euros stuff is just crap
Everything worked brilliant except... touch didn't work. Now it could be a faulty screen... but the place were it dropped on the ground was actually at the connector for the screen (saw it when the phone was opened up) so my guess is that the board itself got damaged.
I never actually "killed" my phones, nor cracked the glasses, but I did manage somehow to fuck up the micro usb's Port inside my Samasung S3(previous phone) around 5 times... each fixing costed around 35$ so around 175$ in total.
that's why I moved to my current LG G4 a bit sooner then thought.. though I somewhat regret this,a bit more I would've G5,better option for PSP emulation

Never even had a phone break down on me. Still have my first one working Nokia 5110 and the other 3 that came after it. They sure don't make em to last any more.

FFS!
Did you swap it yourself or someone else? Double check the cable from display, it does a 180 degree turn and I managed to break it on my first screen which also broke the touch, again.
Yup I did, cable looks fine (checked it first since those things are flimsy buggers). Same for the contacts. Going to see if I can get a replacement but not pinning my hopes on it.
Now it's time to find her another phone. Not going to waste more money into that one, I could justify the 60€ gamble and it would have been super if it worked...
