|
 |
If I compress a movie (60%) in DVDShrink it takes about 1,5 hour in high quality (sharp) single pass. I only got a athlon xp 2000+, so thats why. I can do the progress in 0,5 an hour without the high quality setting but if you want the extra features you sometimes need to do it in high quality mode.
The problem:
I sometimes only have about 2-3 hours to compress 3 DVD's so most of them is not compressed in high quality and on my projector the difference is unacceptable.
The solution:
I need a new CPU and I only use my computer to compress movies. I have a socket a and have thought about a barton 3200+(950dkr) or a sempron 3100+ (650dkr) or a xp2700+ (2,17ghz) (650dkr).
How fast would I be able to compress them in high quality?
I have also thought about a new Mobo + a athlon 64 3000+ (about 1800dkr or 285euro)

i really think this is a situation where you need to try it out yourself. you may get a slight change it may be a big change. i honestly don't know how much the CPU effects this proggie. you could always try it on a dif comp and see the difference. With so many variables involved it would be near impossible to say it will take 10 mins etc.

First of all high quality sharp single pass. lol wtf is that crap. If you think that adds quality youre kidding yourself. And since I'm using a projector as well with a 118 inch screen. I see no difference worth pissing with all that for, just remove all the extra crap most of the time and youre good.
And what the hell is up with 60%, no wonder it looks like shit. You NEVER wanna go below 58% EVER because at that point it so clearly compressed its more annoying than anything. And 60 is aweful damn close to that...and that point it is'nt even worth copying you get that low of a %.
As for what takes it so long, well the extra worthless process of fake ass "sharo" wanna be enhancement is half the problem. That adds a LOAD of time. I find if you keep the % up all you need to do is deep analyze before encode and youre good.
Like the person said though, you do need to mess around with it and go with looks best to you. I cant tell you whet youre seeing and what youre not. I do know 60% is entirely to low for a movie and not have it look like total crap.

If you need to return the dvds quickly or don't have time to do it right away just rip the vobs to your computer and do it later...
