...a brilliantly simple site to test your internet speed.

http://fast.com/

Netflix has announced the global launch of Fast.com, an elegantly simple, consumer-oriented website which tests the download speed of any home network in seconds.

Fast.com immediately begins calculating your computer's download speed upon opening, and is typically finished within 10 seconds. The site allows you to compare this result to speedtest.net, which is generally the standard website used for internet service diagnostics on speed and ping. We ran three separate tests comparing the results of fast.com and speedtest.net, and found that the download speed results could differ each time between the two sites by anywhere between 0.5 and 1.0 Mbps, with speedtest.net generally displaying a faster download speed than fast.com.

Unlike speedtest.net, fast.com doesn't display ping or upload speed; according to the site, "fast.com is a simple-to-use way for consumers to estimate what speed their ISP is providing. It is not a network engineer's analysis and diagnostic suite."

Wow, really useful. I'll never use speedtest again. Seriously that announcement sounds like its something of a breakthrough in speed-testing technology, while really its just a really cut down version of speedtest. But lets make it sound like wow much test many speed such download so simple. lol wut

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Doesn't even come close to what I get on Speedtest in best case.

Gives me about ~80Mbps right now where as Speedtest gives ~105Mbps.
Steam and Torrents get over 16MB/s at best though, highest Speedtest has been like ~135Mbps.

135 Mbps is 16 MB/s (well, almost 17)...135/8 = 16.875.

It's Megabit versus MegaByte. Don't divide by 10.

Netflix' shit maxes out at 300 Mbps just fine for me btw.

It should be doing two tests, one with Netflix servers/domain, another with a different one. To expose throttling issues.

*Giggle* I tested it and was whining at its accuracy or lack of it... To realize: a few moments ago I put Zootopia on download and it was accurate down to the bit after all when taking that speed into the mix Laughing

I think the site is more a way for Netflix to gather results.

Didn't even come close for me. Started out at 5 and maxed out at less than 20 Mbps out of my "real" 100 Mbps.

Yes, Netflix gathers data. It also probably sells data to the highest bidder.
