I know already that some of you will just disagree with me out of principle of disliking me, which is fine, and also those that disagree with my points - which is fine.

But I'm still pissed.

I received an email from PKR today. Nothing unusual about that, I get them daily trying to get me to spend money. But I got this specific one today:

Quote:
With your help, we’re getting there

Hi Scott,

First, I want to thank you for playing at PKR. Your decision to stick with us through our move to the Microgaming Network is key to our future success, and much appreciated by the whole team.

We’ve had a few teething problems since launch and I apologise if you’ve been affected. I’m glad to say they’ve been fixed. Now we’re focusing on improving your experience, giving you better value for money and - to (possibly unwisely) adapt the catchphrase of another CEO – making PKR great again!

As a thank you for your loyalty, I’d like to credit a random cash bonus between €5 and €200* to your account when you make your next deposit.

See you at the tables,

Chris Welch, CEO

Now, quite apart from the fact I am not thick, I know Mr Welch did not sit at his desk and decide he should personally write to me, and that virtually everyone would have received this email, It's still an apology email with a cash offer for my 'loyalty' - I have been using PKR since it's inception over 10 years ago - and the wording specifically made out I would get a random cash bounus credited to my account if I made a deposit in the 48 hour window.

So I did.

After noticing the bonus had gone in (£4... fucking pointless but whatever), I also noticed it was a non-cashable bonus, and that it had a 7.5x wager requirement to cash it out.

This would mean I would actually need to wager £28 or near as to release the £4.

Now I of course understand such things are typical for poker bonuses, otherwise anyone would deposit, get the bonus, and withdraw. That is fine, for a typical bonus offer.

In my opinion, this was NOT a typical bonus offer.

Firstly, it was an apology, with a thank-you loyalty bonus if I deposited. Forget the * for the moment; that wording was clearly specifically chosen to make me believe I was getting free cash for my loyalty to the site.

As for the * - at the very bottom of the page, after scrolling through about 2 screens of other games that are available, was a small button saying 'Terms and Conditions Apply'. Clicking this opened a new webpage, with the wagering conditions inside - nothing else.

Now, usually you get the T&C's clearly stated on the bottom of the email. This is the first time that's changed.

My opinion of this, is it was clearly using my length of time as a customer as a scam to get me to deposit. PKR have never done this in the past. Coincidentally they just joined the Microgaming network...

I had a long conversation with an online CSA, and they went away for 15 mins at a time, checking things I guess, to come back with the typical 'should have read the T&C's' line.

Worst of all, I can't just take my £10 back - as they've recently introduces a 2% withdrawal fee...

I feel scammed, and I am utterly furious.

You lost £10, but you learned a lesson.

Greed>brain.

You'll get over it eventually.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

Screw you Chris Welch, most deceiving Nigerian Prince ever Razz Okay
Don't worry too much about it really, it happens.. like Couleur said it's a lesson learned. Such individuals and "companies" thrive on elaborate ruses and downright illegal tricks, and alas, there's no one to properly regulate/punish them :<

As is usual for people you fell for the asterisk/too-good-to-be-true scam. Withdraw whatever you have in there, losing that withdrawal fee and ask for your account to be deleted/disabled. When they ask why say it's because they scammed you.

Generally delete the bookmarks, block their email address and move on. And whenever someone asks you about that company, give it to them raw. Very Happy

Yeah I had similar experiences in the past ...

I used to make 3D content for IMVU, a 3D chat platform. In the past, you could sell your earnings to IMVU and get dollars back. This was about $40-50 per month which was nice since I only had to put in an hour or two each month checking out reviews, replying to customers, etc. and I made the stuff for my own use so it was fun to get something out of it.

Then suddenly, they started to change their TOS: no more money cash outs. Basically IMVU told developers to spend their money on other items in the IMVU store. Yes, IMVU were that clueless (and still are). Some popular developers made $400-500 worth of IMVU coins a month and it was unrealistic to expect them to spend those on in-game items. Not to mention that IMVU-made items could ONLY be bought using real money Rolling Eyes . Yes, IMVU sucked THAT much.

So I found a website where you could gift your coins to and they'd pay you back in dollars. Because I had moved on to Second Life (way better creation tools and much better way to make money), having gotten sick with IMVU's shady practices, I basically just let the coins from my store roll in and would, every few months, exchange them for dollars on that website. FMXchange or something it was called.

Until suddenly, after I had $150 worth of coins in there, they sent me an email stating that the only way to cash out was through some extremely convoluted way because Paypal had pulled out. I had to provide all sorts of evidence that I owned the account after what they claimed was "massive abuse". Since $150 is quite a lot, I sent them all the info to prove who I was and then ... they didn't respond.

Looking through forums, virtually no-one got approved and that's when my penny dropped. They were closing down and were looking to sell off their stock of coins and other virtual currencies but wanted to make some extra money so basically, they stole your virtual money, sold it on but blocked the way for you to cash out and since you first had to "upload" your currencies to try and cash out, you wouldn't find out until it was too late. With thousands using this system, they were able to make $50.000-100.000 easily before shutting down the site. Let's say I was NOT pleased. Evil or Very Mad
