Quote: | Notorious criminal Frank Griffin (Jeff Daniels) and his gang of outlaws are on a mission of revenge against Roy Goode (Jack O’Connell), a son-like protégé who betrayed the brotherhood. While on the run, Roy seeks refuge with hardened widower Alice Fletcher (Michelle Dockery), an outcast herself, in a worn-down, isolated mining town of La Belle, NM — governed mainly by women. When word reaches La Belle that Griffin is headed their way, the town bands together to defend against the murderous gang in a lawless western frontier.
In a seven-part epic western from Academy Award-winner Steven Soderbergh, executive producer Casey Silver, and Academy Award and Golden Globe-nominated screenwriter and director Scott Frank, the first-ever original limited series Godless comes to Netflix November 22, 2017. |

It really looks like western genre is living a resurgence these days, good. I'm very much interested in Steven Soderbergh's vision of that era, he absolutely nailed the historical setting in The Knick.

Just saw the first episode and it's pretty decent. One of the songs reminded me of westwood
Also i suspect the feminism value is pretty high in this series. Saw already a complete construction crew of woman building a church, some female cowboys and some other stuff... but it's cool i guess
Story is pretty standard but interesting till now. If you enjoy westerns, i'm pretty sure you will enjoy this.

I've just finished it too.
I think it was a solid 7.5+\10.
I enjoyed it.
The story was nothing special but overall the show was pretty good. The final shootout was nice
And I really liked how they presented horses in this show.
PS Some things bothered me though.
- I didn't quite get why Spoiler: | Roy left Frank and stole all the money. They seemed to have a special father-son relationship |
- Why didn't Roy Spoiler: | stay with Alice? |
- A totally WTF moment.. The death of the Spoiler: | deputy was so stupid..What was he thinking coming out like that? |
- Why did the sheriff and Roy Spoiler: | walk to the gang in the open instead of starting firing their guns when no one saw them? Stupid.. |
- Afaik most of the women didn't have experience with guns and yet Spoiler: | they managed to kill quite a few of the experienced men when the shootout started. They did choose a great vantage point but still.. |
Was it some special breed of the Wild West women?

'Tis a good mini-show, well acted, with interesting characters and proper development involved, I definitely enjoyed it too. The premise almost sounded like it was something designed to please silly agendas, thankfully though it's not really that kind of production, there's a valid reason behind the context, all the town ladies are actually portrayed in a believable way as well as the protagonists (the scruffy Jeff Daniels was a pleasant surprise ).
It's a classic western tale focused on slow storytelling, only under a slightly different perspective than the usual, it ends on clichè-ish notes and there are occasional moments where things just resolve without following logical threads (*points at Horny's spoilers*), but it's a great watch for anyone who likes the genre.

It was a good watch, though they let go of reality towards the end. How some things turned out, especially some shoot outs, was ridiculous IMO. I also didn't understand how the sheriff fixed his eyes suddenly.
Definitely worth a watch, even though it's veeeeery slow at times. 7.5/10

T'was nice, but it had a weak overall story.
Still, if you like westerns you'll probably like this.
Helps when you can binge watch, think if it was a weekly thing with a 3 weeks pause in between the half of a season or other such nonsense I would have given up on it.
Spoiler: | That last episode had a lot of daft moments though. Dem fierce buffalo soldiers had no point... didn't even lessen the numbers on the Griffin gang. And whitey's death was beyond moronic. at least make him show-boat a bit before getting shot in the face in the battle.
I thought the worst performance went to Fletcher, she had this perpetual face of: wondering if it was a fart or a poo. Seeing her IMDB media, seems she has the problem her entire career

About Whitey
Spoiler: |
This is from another poster. It explains pretty good why it happened like this.

A totally WTF moment.. The death of the deputy was so stupid..What was he thinking coming out like that?
You don't understand the character of the deputy. He is a good soul, a young guy with talent and a promising type of person. He deeply cares about others. But he has no life experience and is still just a teenager. He knows he is skilled and damn good at what he does. But he kinda sees this all like a game and has the need to show off his skills. A good scene where they show his character is when the black father beats his daughter for making out with Whitey. Whitey sees this and obviously wants to stop it while being all emotional instead of thinking straight. He pulls out his gun and aims from a long ass distance at the father. Completely stupid, because he could've easily killed the father or even hit that girl. He was lucky that Roy stopped him and Whitey realized that Roy barely prevented his downfall. He just overestimates himself - a very big character flaw that defines his personality. Some people try to tell him that throughout the show, but he never really learns the lesson.
The final scene is another good example. He is the best shot, yes. But instead of being smart and staying with the others in the house, he goes all by himself. Thinking he is the hero, the guy who will step out the door, make a huge ass show and fucking save everybody, especially his girl. He swings his fucking pistols around (showoff as usual) instead of actually shooting somebody. He contributed absolutely nothing and just died in an instant. Having a surprised look on his face while he dies in the dirt. He died alone and nobody even saw how it happened. Well, life ain't about showing off - just like Roy always told the little kid when they were training and he kept asking about tricks. You don't need to do your goddamn tricks, just fucking shoot and aim well. But it wouldn't have been as heroic as he thought it had to be. A lesson Whitey never wanted to learn. He paid with his life for this teenage recklessness.

I thought my comment showed I understood the character... so the explanation doesn't make it much different to me. In my opinion they took it just a bit too far/simplistic with how they handled it. Granted the show had more of those moments and it doesn't help that the finale was extra guilty on that part. |

Well, that wasn't that good as I'd hoped to. A story of 7 episodes that could've been told in 3-4 easily. The story didn't make a lot of sense to me either. 6-ish/10 I'd give it. Jeff Daniels had good acting as usual.

That's how I feel with all of the Netflix Marvel shows. |
True, they like dragging things out, wasting shitload of money and then not having enough to make normal action scenes. The battle at the end was rushed, unrealistic and embarrassing.

Very enjoyable limited series, though quite unrealistic. The best thing of it all was Jeff Daniels, give the man his awards.
