This is basically because of the spotlight movie but there's a little tidbit at the end that lead me to research if it's real and, based on wikipedia at least, it seems it is real. Namely...

It's not a coincidence that the Mafia is the second largest criminal organization in Italy, right behind the Church. I wish I was kidding, but alas the Vatican cohesion, viciousness and overall consensus from the masses are unparalleled. They don't directly kill people, they let the whole society slowly zombify from the inside like Lopin's tapeworm*
*also valid for any other religious organization, the principle is always the same. Only the methods are different

well, look at the middle east. if they weren't religious nomads, the mess there wouldn't be nearly as big. a science based atheist country that is invaded for oil would react differently than they do. there would be silent grumbling, riots, shady business deals. but instead the nubs keep killing each other/killing westerners, ravaging their already sand infested wasteland of countries, and now are massively spilling over into our relatively civilized realms.
same with israel and palestine.
and the cannon fodder from the states going to war straight out of college, if they valued human life like an atheist does, they wouldn't be rushing there after playing cod 38 
and let's not forget africa. living in a desert, but procreating like 18th century irish catholics and then going, i'm hungry!
so many shitty places all over the world where religion is having a local and global effect.

It's not a statistic that says much. A lot of people would call them religious even though the only thing is that they believe is that there is some god out there.
Most of them aren't batshit crazy that they believe in virgin birth, resurrection and other nonsense. Being religious isn't really the problem, it's how you behave with your beliefs.
Just look at people calling themselves Christian, Muslim,... and then ask what they do and don't believe. You end up with a lot of people that aren't what they claim they are. Reason: organized religion is static making it so outdated that it doesn't fit one bit with the world we live in.
People that run for president even spout absolute nonsense and they aren't challenged on their integrity or saneness.
