A Japanese engineer has developed a portable transporter small enough to be carried in a backpack that he says is the world's first 'car in a bag'.

Twenty-six-year-old Kuniako Saito and his team at Cocoa Motors recently unveiled the lithium battery-powered "WalkCar" transporter, which is the size of a laptop and resembles a skateboard more than a car.

The slender WalkCar is made from aluminum and weighs between two and three kilograms (4.4 to 6.6 pounds), depending on whether it is an indoor or outdoor version.

Saito expects to see many other uses for his transporter, as he says it has enough power to help people push wheelchairs with ease. The lightweight aluminum board is stronger than it looks, and can take loads of up to 120kg (265 pounds).

It reaches top speeds of 10 kilometers per hour (6.2 miles per hour), for distances of up to 12 kilometers (7.4 miles) after three hours of charging.

Its developer says it's also extremely simple to ride. Once the rider stands on it the WalkCar starts automatically, while simply stepping off stops the vehicle. To change direction, the user just shifts their weight.

(no)Video on link. I liked it.

I couldn't find a video link on the page (am I blind?) but despite how awesome the tech is and how light the device, 12km distance at 10kph hardly seems like it would very effective Very Happy

that's so weird, they did have a video and removed it without mention... but thanks StrEagle!
I guess it is kinda effective, but still its only the first version, in a few years it could be much better...

@StrEagle

Nice one, thanks man! It looks cool as hell I gotta admit Very Happy

@Invasor

Yup! Early years for the tech.. seeing how stuff like this progresses in the future is making me all giddy. How much we've advanced in the last 60 years, what about the next 60? \o/

I can actually see myself using this. Segways are a bit too clunky, but this looks very sleek and cool!

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Too clow to travel on the road, too small to use up and down on sidewalks. This is just for the use shown on the video: around a park that has perfect roads. If you hit a bump with this you will break your face on the asphalt.

Just get a scooter or some battery-assisted bicycle. Or an actual fucking bicycle. There is no problem parking scooters/bicycles no matter where you live/go.

I'd like to someone faceplanting from stopping from these neck breaking speeds of 10 km/h Laughing

Well, 10kmph is quite a brisk walk, so I imagine it would be like stumbling on a rock, and being unprepared for it the same you could actually faceplant

You sure can, however, it would a lot more stupid with this, since you're not moving a muscle until the accident. Very Happy
Btw I said 10 kmph, because they so, but, in some of those scenes above they definitely did not reach that speed.

I'd also like to add, they I also find this almost good. Especially compared to the segway.
