This time around we'll drive with a rental car. I hope that it comes with onboard navigation but even in that case I guess it might not have the maps of switzerland/italy installed. (if anyone knows a good free offline navigation alternative to gmaps, that'd be great)
This time we'll try to go to italy through switzerland, instead of austria, because austrias traffic was slow and there were no chances for us to overtake at any point and basically no alternative routes :/ And after Brenner the roads are full until verona.
Is there anything that we need to keep in mind regarding switzerland except for the one time toll?

I don't know how things work when it comes to the Swiss path sadly :<, but the app that Paul suggested works wonders offline^^
Also don't forget to choose a rental car with good AC, you'll definitely need it

Yeah, we got this baby:
BMW 320D Touring 2015,
29KM on the clock (so I am the first to violate it )
Heads up display, rear facing camera, pdc front/back, automatic gears, cruise control, fantastic AC, ...
Also got an insurance for the glass and shit because tuscany roads
@inv: torino is too far away
@werelds: Got myself that sweet "here maps" with all relevant cards. Luckily I decided to grab the 64GB S6, so still plenty of room left for nice sexy pics
@sabin: thx mate!
And I bought a Lighter2USB because I was too stupid to find the usb port on the car Well now I'll be able to charge 3 phones at once
The lady at Sixt wanted to give me a nice 330D free of charge but sadly it had only 2000km left on the clock and that wouldn't even cover the way to tuscany and back

And to think that I was imagining you crossing the Chianti with a glorious Fiat Multipla
You did the right thing with the insurance, especially if you plan to visit little/medium towns, more dangerous than the big cities. You need to activate the Loeb_mode to discover all the hidden corners! xD

@mr_s: apparently it's company policy at sixt that the cars have to return to Munich before they hit 25000km.
@janz: yes, I'm an idiot
@sabin:that car is a dream. I wanted to buy a used 2012 f30 bmw3 ans didn't even care for any extras. Now that I have driven this baby my little Bella bravo will feel like a car from the Flintstones :'(
Regarding here maps: didn't require any external navigation. This bmw connected drive shit had everything on board.and it showed the max speed reliably even in Switzerland and Italy (in Italy only 99% correct, but even as a very careful driver I was confused which of the 3-in-a-row speed limits would affect me )
BTW how come that the car was able to download new suggested routes while I was driving in italy?it can also play youtube vids and I can visit normal websites and surf around. I did not pair it with my phone (it was even at home when I tried it out) nor did I insert and sim or whatever. What is this magic? Does it work like the free Internet on Kindle shit?

They have pre-intalled SIM-s in them. It's called ConnectedDrive by BMW.
