Fuck. It is this time of the year again. Rapid growing grass, man. Everywhere.

I've been wanting to try out a robo mower for a couple of years but never did.

First few times a year is ok to do it manually, but from there it drags on heavily. Very Happy

I've been looking at a few models but why do they all seem so sucky? I've read articles that say in about 5 to 10 years 70 to 80% of privately owned mowers will be running the show of mowing lawns without the help of the owner. Sounds like a dream to me, haha. But yeah, the stuff I see now looks like low budget children's toys, and whenever I've seen a video of one it looks as if they've been programmed by video game AI programmers; totally stupid.

I understand they're meant to work in an erratic pattern to not make wheel tracks as apparent, whatever works I guess, as I don't plan to sit there and watch the thing work.

This is one that appears to score well in tests
HUSQVARNA AUTOMOWER® 330X

I did some light research and found out the 330x thing is at least a couple of years old. Looking at the menus on the actual machine is telling, those aren't exactly smartphone quality menus, but rather something you'd expect to find on an old Nokia phone.

There are android/ios apps for some mowers, some actually let's you take manual control like a remote controller, for when you have nothing better to do I guess!? I just need one that does an okay job on its own, especially for vacations and stuff when I'm not there. I'm not about to hire some dude to hang around my property and drive a lawn mower.

There's no way of knowing if new models are right around the corner, and these things are very expensive in my opinion. Looking at how these work, there's no way nothing but the top models would do any good, as the lawn I need it for is large, lots of trees and plants in general, 3200m2+ at least and I can tell you is a pain to maintain.

Any adults here with some thoughts on these things, what to buy, or if I shouldn't buy one right now or what. I want to try one, but they all seem so last-gen to me, and I get this feeling that these robots should be better by now. Apparently they do 'ok' work, but I'd be annoyed if I forked out for a currently high-end one that has been on the market for a long time, only to see a new gen appear like a month after that.

I don't know where you live, but since you can get Husqvarna products, are you in Scandinavia? If so, see if you have any retailer that sells Stihl/Viking, The Viking iMow has been getting "best in test" awards lately, so maybe look into that..
