So can someone post the definitive explanation of what the problem is with a little off-topic posts in a thread, where an organic discussion may pull? Especially when new real on-topic information is not just flowing. People complain, but what the fuck is the problem? Just read a few posts up and there, you are on topic.

I mean, cutting a conversation just because of topic enforcement sounds stupid to me, and hate when there is strict enforcement on some forums. Thankfully, this is not one of them.

I can understand if someone comes to troll and posts some shit, but if it's a conversation that just goes a little sideways, so fucking what. Expand your attention span (good advice for life in general), and just skip.

Aye, I completely agree. There's a difference between shitposting and natural conversation and, unless it's a thread about an unreleased game, the "offtopic!" stuff doesn't last long anyhow. It's just an extension of what everyone was talking about as usual.

And with unreleased games, there isn't enough information to post anyway, so there is naturally more talk of other stuff.

Exactly. Now don't get me wrong, I agree that if something goes off on a tangent for several pages or more and it's really not related to the thread, then it should be splintered to somewhere more appropriate, but so many times people cry "off-topic!" after just a handful of posts and yeah, it's restrictive and irritating :\

"Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
