You know you wish you'd never started something when you notice your 80mb line has dropped to 65mb - not exactly third world speeds. But seeing as I'm paying for it, I thought I'd call Sky and get them to perhaps reset the line profile or something.

Now I have an engineer here, who's been looking at the line for an hour, still not got the speed up, and is now organising a shift & lift.

Knowing my luck I'll get an even worse line and be told ' ah that's all we can do I'm afraid'. Plus I bet i have to go through the usual line training.

Sigh.

No, doesn't seem they will... turns out they have detected my router appears to drop out for 4-5 hours a day every day since 2 weeks ago, so I'm going through all m equipment to figure out why - Fibre DLM will go back to normal with a stable connection. Just can't think whats causing it.

up too. the more people who sign up the slower the sync and speed will become, and that's before you consider congestion, fttc always slows as people sign up.

surprised they sent out an engineer to be honest, if he finds a fault home side (or no fault found) don't be surprised if ye is billed. sky should have advised that before booking the visit tbh.

Sky have this highly annoying thing about embedding the login details within the router firmware. And, they seem to lock the connection to the MAC of the router too. Basically I can't use a different one.

The guy did do a lot of testing, made a lot of calls, but eventually came back with that answer - Sky had no clue, it doesn't appear I will be charged, especially if the router is at fault.

And it isn't congestion - it has been confirmed there is a DLM cap on the line due to the excessive re-syncing every day. I have no idea why, but I'll be keeping a very close eye on my router logs and connection status from now on. DLM should reset back to normal after a few weeks.
