Still loved that one mission with team of X-Wing vs Star Destroyer, although those goddamn homing torpedoes were always a bitch.

With today's announcement comes two incredible titles that are branded as some of the best Star War's games ever released; Star Wars X-Wing & Star Wars Tie Fighter. Play through many missions of space Star Wars combat, play as either the good guys or the bad guys and be immersed in CD-Rom goodness. This is Star Wars at it's best!

The Win95 version would probably be helluva difficult to get working on modern OS's compared to DOSBox emulating the floppy edition.
(Wasn't there a thread with GOG games which weren't the "best" version of the game available from floppy releases over CD-ROM versions and such.)

Because developers only care about money and graphic looking games, they don't care about story and other important stuff.

I used a virtual Win98 and PPJoymouse to get the Win95 versions and XW:A running under Windows 7 with mouse controls, it was a BLAST. Such an epic series.

I wouldn't say that exactly. I'm sure there are plenty of AAA devs that would happily make a game from one of the "dead" genres. The problem is publishers don't want to fund those sorts of games, because some pencil pusher determined that there was more money in first person shooters and zombies. Hence why there has been a flood of niche games on Kickstarter the last couple of years.

I know it sounds petty, but I dunno if I could play these now, with the extremely low res.. unless it's somehow possible to patch it to a higher res I would just sigh about the 'old days' .

Although what you said is quite funny Very Happy, with such a low amount of assets in those games it would not be that bad to create higher res visual representation at least for it, the ship is just an overlay in those games so nothing really difficult.

Yeah but they're all 2d sprite games... not quite the same as 3d flight sim type games, I tried Wing Commander games recently - loved them back in the day, couldn't imagine playing them now tho. And yes I did try that other spite based 3d space sim - but the res is much higher.

Look at the great games 10 years ago and the shit games they release these days. Medal of Honor, Battlefield 1942, Call of Duty 1, Duke Nukem, Command & Conquer, those where all great titles. Look at how EA screwed up the C&C games for sample or any other developer with their "in-app purchase stuff". The people who bought games in the past got "mappacks" for free, now developers charge 20 dollars for it. So why would i not say that ? they only care about "getting money fast" without doing hard work for it. A good sample of that is the last C&C game or the Mass Effect (3) story line.

Erm no they're not. X-Wing and TIE Fighter were full polygon.
