“Penny Dreadful: City of Angels will have a social consciousness and historical awareness that we chose not to explore in the Penny Dreadful London storylines. We will now be grappling with specific historical and real world political, religious, social and racial issues. In 1938, Los Angeles was facing some hard questions about its future and its soul. Our characters must do the same. There are no easy answers. There are only powerful questions and arresting moral challenges. As always in the world of Penny Dreadful, there are no heroes or villains in this world, only protagonists and antagonists; complicated and conflicted characters living on the fulcrum of moral choice.”
Yeah, no. Fuck Showtime, after the ending of Homeland this next winter I'm done with their shows (as I said,in the past maybe I'll binge watch Billions if it gets a proper ending.) Not taking this bait.
"Sorry if we screwed the enjoyable original show and handed you one of our trademark silly endings, here have a brand new follow-up that has nothing to do with it and finally tackles more enticing politically correct thematics!"
It doesn't make a lot of sense to have such a revise-hash-vival, feels quite random to be honest. I'd lie if I said that I'm not curious about it (at least the production crew will be the same-ish, not that it means much ), but still. *skept-o-meter running wild*

Since you're a fan of Penny Dreadful, try out The Alienist if you haven't already.
Original show was already horrible, so I don't see how this is either good or bad news
+ 1
What a confused TV show. I thought it was gonna be a team of specialists wrecking monsters in a gothic horror setting ... and it was a confused and gay show with no action, was there any point to all the weirdness going on?
My experience is based on the episodes I watched before getting bored and dropping it, don't come at me with some "it had tons of action!" bullshit. Those fuckers were doing nothing.
Now they'll tackle political, social and RACIAL issues! Oohhh boy!
Some more details about the show and a first look at Natalie Dormer:
Quote:
Penny Dreadful: City of Angels begins with a murder that shocks the city. Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) is on the case and soon finds himself caught up in a story steeped in the history of Los Angeles that touches on the building of the first freeways in the city and its ties to traditional Mexican-American folklore, to the Third Reich’s spy efforts in the city and the advent of radio evangelism.
Creator John Logan tells EW that Magda is the character that "makes it a Penny Dreadful.” She plays into one of the show's major themes, “demonization of the other." ( aka black evulz costumes because who needs subtlety )
