Hi fellow nfhumper's

I need advice from the more experienced...

I seek to buy the Intel 5820K (6core)

Now, witch X99 MB would you suggest and which 16 GIG kit DDR4 (brand/model) should I get ?

And last question, which air cooler should I get to have a decent overclock without having to frick around for hours..I don't need 5 Ghz ...A fine stable 4.3 - 4.4 would be great at decent temps.

My budget is around 1200$ CAN

Mind you that I will be selling my below parts (CPU/MB/MEM) to be replaced for 500$ to a buddy of mine.

Thanks for your help

I wouldn't do this now without good reason.
Intels next Cpu's on a new smaller node will be available soon. I'd wait for that if doing a cpu upgrade at all.

Noctua NH-D15 for CPU cooler. It's the best.

I do not recommend going 2011 sockel for gaming.
DDR4 memory gives minimal fps advantage and so does 6 core vs 4 core in games.

Unless you're doing video editing also and need it to be both gaming machine + workstation.

For pure gaming I would safe the extra money on the 6 core and 2011 socket MB and DDR4 Ram,
Get a decent K i7 haswell with 1050 socket and DDR3 mem, then spend the saved money on a big phat GTX980.

I already have a GTX970 overclocked to 980 vanilla speed. I didn't want to spend 700$ for a video card that does not have a lot more to give than it's little sister for half the price.

As for my original dilemma, I'm still hesitating ..Seems far next fall for the new cpu's .. My idea was to get a nice affordable (kinda) future proof cpu for the next 4-5 years ..hence the 6 core option ...I don't really care about the 28 lanes instead of 40 since I don't plan on doing sli...never did..I always preferred the ONE card option.

Anyhow..I still have time to read and investigate since I'm not planning on doing the move until end of January or so...

I just wanted quick views on my situation ..

Thanks for your info guys..I'll be thinking about it..Smile
