I've always hated that game, ever since it came out, I've always seen it as childish. I don't like teenage angst in my games.
Also, the sword is a paddle.

You're thinking of the wrong game, there's no teenage angst in VII. There's not even any real "angst" in VIII either, just a lot of Squall hating people and not wanting to rely on them IX is angsty, it's pretty much all about angst, I never understood why so many people - even the creator, Sakaguchi - rate it so highly.

eh i guess its a matter of opinion, imo ff9 was only angsty in the last 1/4,
ff7 in the first 1/3 ff8 for the first half of the game.

cloud stops being angsty after a while, zidane starts being angsty in the last hours,
squall has the most problems dealing with the angst Laughing

one deals with own insecurities, another one with brother/father issues, and another one cant deal with his older sister leaving him.

You know, i hate angsty jap crap. But if a character is weak and a bit angsty in the beginning, only to man up later, then it's completely fine! i'd say it makes for a good game. But when a character is a real wuss from the start til the end, then i'd hate it. I had to quit tales of symphonia 2 because i couldn't stand the main character. How can anyone seriously design such a character?!

Loved yuri as well! Being more of a hard ass, or a dick when appropriate is much more entertaining than listening to some sad , angsty char whining throughout the game.

Let's hope their next game will be good. Hope they ditched the silent protagonist bullshit from Xilia 2. Character only looks like a retard with his grunting and his silly body language Laughing Sufficed to say, i put that game down too quite quickly.

Indeed, opinion and interpretation, but that's what I love about the series Smile The only time you see any kind of "angst" in VII is dealing with Cloud's fractured memories and adopted personality. I wouldn't call that "angst", certainly not "teenage angst" crap - more like a psychotic break. Same with Squall really, who - as you said - no longer wanted to rely on anyone after losing his "Sis". I don't see that as angst, but rather anger and stubbornness Very Happy

I don't dislike them, for me it's a matter of semantics. For instance I think that Chrono Trigger is one of the best action adventures I've ever played Laughing
Suikoden 1+2 are far better rpg's than Dragon Age 2 and possibly 3. They're certainly better games.

I don't necessarely judge games based on what genre they've been placed in, but on the contents of the games themselves.
