Hi guys.

what do you think of this tv:
http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-un55h8000-55in-curved-1080p-60-94798.htm

we need a new one for our living room (actually, we don't but i'm somehow horny about getting a new one (+ a ps4 or in preparation for a ps4 Razz)).

Samsung curved tv 55´ is at a good price right now here, so i wonder if someone has experience with a curved tv... is it worth the change?

thx!

What is your budget?

If not so high:
Get a LG or Samsung TV. They have a very good price-performance ratio. But if ordering online, order from something like Amazon where you can return the TV without problems for another one (in case of display problems like clouding/bleeding)

I too would'nt get any of those curved TVs, just gimmicks IMO. I imagine that the picture will look bad when looking from a side-angle, because of LED-backlight

A curved 55" requires a narrow point-of-view, basically a 3-seat sofa close to the telly, to get optimal viewing. Anyone looking at the screen from an angle will see one side of the picture compressed and have the focus on the opposing side instead of the middle of the screen.

I'd love one of those 55" curved screens mounted to my awesomely sweet and remote-controlled recliner armchair (the remote controls the seat, back and leg rest) so it would follow the angle I'm "laying" in the chair. Razz

Curved are extremely expensive so I got this one Samsung UE48H6400.

Amazing colors, lots of inputs. Works great with logitech z-906 and optical DTS. Also has native apps so you can control YouTube from your phone, etc.

Obviously I can't afford that telly. I wish I had one though. Cool

curved is such a shitty fad. it was groundbreaking when flat screens were finally created, and now we are back to distorted images on curved screens. companies just do this for money and people are retarded sheep for buying into utterly useless gimmicks.

If you're sitting at the right position it's not distorted, but yeah, I hate those things.

My friend have 47" LG tv with mouse/pilot pointer with mic. It works FANTASTIC. the pointer is more precise than wii controller and mic picks up words nicely. The picture itself is very sharp and nice. Black seemed ok too but that would need more investigation...

Thats it. I am really out of the loop on TV's and was shocked that there is Youtube, browser and better motion controllers than on any console Laughing

i have Sony KDL42W705B, it's absolutely incredible for gaming, lowest input lag for a tv ever, in fact input lag is so low as many esports gaming monitors. after i play on my tv and go back to my monitor i can feel lag lulz Laughing

and no, it's not officially gaming tv, i just call it that way because of how good it is for gaming. it's also great for movies and usual tv stuff. full review here: http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/kdl42w705b-201402233639.htm

Most controllers for Smart-TV's use gyros in the controller and don't require you to point at the screen.

Curved displays are useless unless they're meant just for you, in your chair or on your couch in the exact right spot. At that point they're fantastic, but the second you move off center you see how shit they are.

That is indeed ridiculously good, is that a 2014 model?

Got a 2010 (I think) one and I'm already might pleased by that one's image quality. If they retained that and got the lag down that far, I think I'll stick with Sony a bit longer Razz

Got a smaller Samsung in the bedroom, but that has the standard Samsung oversaturation, shit looks weird on that. And once you get it down to some decent colours, it gets this weird haze across the display. Before these I had a couple of Panasonics; not bad, but don't hold a candle to Sony.

I just got this TV the other day... it's superb, but you need a lot of time to faff with the settings to get a decent colour/temp out of it.

Pity the 3D sucks monkey ass.

In that case it's a bit of a strange thing to bring up, since as you said, it's entirely under user's control on any TV Very Happy

I hate it when I have to watch movies at friends home and they have Truemotion (or similar crap) turned on. "I dont see anything special". Well, check your fucking eyes!

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
